Postdoctoral Researcher for Lithium Battery research

The School of Chemical Engineering is one of the six schools of Aalto University. It combines natural sciences and engineering in a unique way.

The Electrochemical Energy Conversion Group at Department of Chemistry and Materials Science is looking for talented and highly motivated

Postdoctoral Researcher for Lithium Battery research

In this position you will have an opportunity to work with one of the most important energy storage applications – the next generation lithium batteries. The research is planned and carried out in close collaboration with Finnish battery industry.

Your role

Your research will include work on both positive and negative electrode materials and covers synthesis, material structure investigation, and battery assembling for various electrochemical studies. In situ and in operando studies of processes during the electrode active material synthesis and their behavior during battery cycling can be also included. Work will be carefully supported by experienced supervisors and technical staff but you are also expected to conduct high quality experiments and analysis independently.

 Research group

You would join the talented Electrochemical Energy Conversion Group (https://www.aalto.fi/en/department-of-chemistry-and-materials-science/electrochemical-energy-conversion ) lead by professor Tanja Kallio. The group investigates and develops materials and devices for electrochemical energy conversion and storage. Balancing the supply and demand of electrical energy is one of the major societal and technological challenges when increasing the share of the intermittent renewable sources, such as solar and wind, in the electricity generation. Moreover, increase in usage of off-grid portable devices and electrifying traffic increase the need for electrochemical energy conversion and storage devices. The group is actively involved in European projects, collaborates with other research organizations and industry in Finland and globally. Details of the publications of the research group can be found via https://scholar.google.ru/citations?user=cArwQx0AAAAJ&hl=en .

Requirements

You must have a PhD in Chemistry, Physics, Material Science or closely related field. If you are highly motivated to carry out research in the field of responsible energy conversion, especially, work on lithium battery research, you would be an ideal candidate for this position. Previous experience in carrying out independent project-based work and working in a highly collaborative environment helps you to succeed in this position. We appreciate practical skills in laboratory work and, for example, experience in voltammetry, impedance spectroscopy, electrochemical cell assembling, glovebox work, XRD, SEM, Raman spectroscopy, and/or inorganic synthesis. Good oral and written command of English is necessary in this position.

What we offer?

The expected starting salary for a postdoctoral researcher is approximately 3450€/month and salary will increase with responsibilities and performance over time. The contract includes occupational health care services and Finland has a comprehensive social security system. Aalto University provides excellent learning and development opportunities, commuter ticket benefit and Unisport offers versatile exercise services with staff discount.

We wish that you could join the research group latest on September 2021, but we are ready to negotiate about the starting date.

Ready to apply?

If you would like to join our community, please submit your application through our recruiting system by using "Apply now!" link below. Please include the following documents in English.

  • Application cover letter
  • Doctoral degree certificate
  • Curriculum Vitae (with the list of publications)
  • Research statement describing your previous research experience
  • References (either letter(s) of recommendation, or names and contact information of the referees)

The call is open until April 30, 2021 but we will start reviewing and interviewing candidates immediately. Applications will be considered until the position is filled.
