Research associate from the field of data management / data science

Data is the new resource of the 21st century and data availability seems endless. Would you like to establish part of the data relationship lifecycle for plant science? Then the division of Bioinformatics IBG-4 at the Institute of Bio- and Geosciences at Research Centre Juelich is the right place for you. The division of Bioinformatics (IBG-4) works on and develops methods and algorithms to achieve a fundamental understanding, especially of high-dimensional data and processes in the bio-economy. The IBG-4 focuses on knowledge management and data integration, classical bioinformatics and machine learning, in particular for the prediction of phenotypes on biological questions concerning transcriptional reprogramming of plants during abiotic stress response, identification of metabolic pathways for secondary metabolites and understanding plant cell wall biosynthesis.

The IBG-4 is part of the EU-funded project BreedingValue that focuses on the design of innovative breeding strategies for strawberries, blueberries and raspberries in Europe. The different characteristics of the varieties, such as taste, smell, appearance and stability of the fruits, as well as the robustness of the plants against environmental stress and their adaptation to sustainable cultivation systems, will be studied in detail and catalogued for this purpose. Task of the IBG-4 is the collection, adaptation and integration of the obtained data, also from metabolite analyses from this and previous projects.
