University of Helsinki offers a Trainee Programme for our international master students. You are eligible to apply if you are an international student enrolled in a University of Helsinki master programme.

We are now looking for a TRAINEE for the Botany Unit of Finnish Museum of Natural History.

You will mainly assist research groups such as the Plant Adaptation and Conservation (PAC) group. The tasks will include, for example, preparing and conducting ecological experiments with plant material, collecting data, data analysis and writing up results. Additional tasks may include literature surveys and technical duties with herbarium (inc. also lichens, other fungi, and mosses) and living plant collections (seed bank and botanic gardens).

We expect you to have genuine interest in plant ecology, conservation biology and good command of English. We appreciate skills in data analysis (e.g. with R statistical software) interest in research and in working as a research assistant in projects.

In addition to the capabilities described above, we hope that you will adapt well to our open and collaborative work community.

We offer you an international work environment and interesting assignments related to research in the fields of conservation biology, taxonomy and systematic. We support your work with active guidance and naming one mentor for you to introduce you to the work and our culture so that you can get the most out of your traineeship.

The duration of a traineeship is from September 1st to December 31st, 2021, (four months) of part-time (50%) work, leaving time for studies as well. The salary of a trainee is €700 per month for a part-time (50%) trainee.
