Postdoc in bio-based polymer materials

Job description

With a focus on sustainability, this project aims to find out how agriculture-sourced materials should be processed and modified to enable replacement of today´s bulk thermoplastics. The scientific objectives of this project are:

i) In-depth understanding of how to create a lignocellulosic feedstock based on the unique spatial and compositional structure of the biomass,

ii) In-depth understanding of the chemical and morphological structures over length scales ranging over several orders of magnitude in the biomass after treatment, and

iii) Structural and chemical relationships for how modification processes affect the functionality of the materials.

The project is part of the research center Fib:Re, funded by Vinnova. You will have great opportunities to work within a large network within academia and industry in Sweden.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • You have a doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline (With some exceptions for special reasons such as periods of sick or parental leave, kindly indicate if such reason exists in your resume).
  • You have good scientific skills.
  • Your ability to co-operate is good and you can also work independently.
  • You possess a good problem-solving ability.
  • You are aware of diversity and equal treatment issues.
  • You have excellent knowledge of English, both written and oral, that is English equivalent to English B/6, read more here

Preferred qualifications

  • A doctoral degree in chemistry, materials science and/or polymer technology from higher education or equivalent studies
  • Previous experience in polysaccharides or biorefining is strongly qualifying.
  • You have a good pedagogical ability.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal competency.

About the employment

The position offered is for, at the most, one and a half years.

A position as a postdoctoral fellow is a time-limited qualified appointment focusing mainly on research, intended as a first career step after a dissertation.
