Wildcat is CSIRO’s most advanced SLAM software that enables teams of robots to collaboratively map and explore unknown environments, and it provides best in class 3D mapping and localisation for survey, inspection, patrol and response applications.
As part of the Wildcat team, you will directly contribute to the development of new Wildcat SLAM features, enhancements and related tools and technologies as we prepare to fully commercialise the technology. Your duties will include:
- Developing high quality C++ and Python code that implements new features, improvements and tools on top of Wildcat SLAM.
- Testing and validating software on existing and new datasets, including working with CSIRO and/or customers to specify and assist with data collection activities.
- Configuring Wildcat to accommodate novel sensor configurations for a variety of applications.
- Where required, liaising with clients to determine their needs and take personal responsibility for their satisfaction.
Location: Pullenvale, QLD, with work from home arrangement possible.
Salary: AU$83k - AU$94k plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need:
- A relevant diploma/bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant work experience related to software engineering/software development, plus at least six months of industry experience.
- Skill and experience developing well-engineered C++ software in a team setting.
Candidates whose applications also demonstrate experience, skills, and abilities in the following areas will also be viewed favourably:
- Developing, using, configuring, modifying and debugging SLAM methods and algorithms (e.g., lidar and/or visual).
- Developing software to handle, process and transform 3D data (e.g., from lidar).
- Analysing, visualising and otherwise interpreting data and data logs to solve issues and guide technical development.
- Field robotics, especially perception algorithms.
- Robot Operating System (ROS).
- Developing with Python.
- Developing software in an industry setting.
- Large-scale software development practices, including PRs, CI/CD, release cycles, etc.
