Postdoc in cyber security with focus on mathematical modelling

KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm has grown to become one of Europe’s leading technical and engineering universities, as well as a key centre of intellectual talent and innovation. We are Sweden’s largest technical research and learning institution and home to students, researchers and faculty from around the world. Our research and education covers a wide area including natural sciences and all branches of engineering, as well as architecture, industrial management, urban planning, history and philosophy.

Job description

We are looking for a postdoc in cyber security with focus on mathematical modelling of dynamic attack and defense strategies. As a postdoc you'll get to develop mathematical tools for analyzing and designing attack and defense strategies in large scale cyber systems. In these systems, attackers would not be able to directly access the targeted object, but need to follow an attack path of subsequent attack actions. An understanding of the attack paths in the system is necessary to implement efficient defense strategies.

The challenge we want to address is twofold. On one side, the developed solutions should consider realistic, dynamic scenarios, where the attacker keeps discovering the vulnerabilities the system, and the defender may gain more and more information about the attacker. On the other side, the considered systems or system of systems are of very large scale, which makes it impossible to follow traditional modelling approaches with full knowledge of the system behavior. The objective of the project is to find powerful approaches for the design of defense strategies, with a mix of data and model driven solutions.

The successful applicant will join the recently started project ”ForFuture: Real-time identification of cyber threats and real vulnerabilities”, with the supervision of Prof. Viktoria Fodor (https://www.kth.se/profile/vjfodor) and Prof. Mathias Ekstedt (https://www.kth.se/profile/mekstedt ) .
