Postdoctoral Researcher - Nanotechnology for Wound Healing

The research activities of the Nanoparticle Systems Engineering Laboratory (www.nse.ethz.ch) are centered on the design and development of innovative materials-based technologies for healthcare. We aim to create tomorrow's therapies and decisively contribute to precision medicine by harnessing engineering fundamentals. Our interdisciplinary team designs materials and develops cutting-edge multiscale analytics in order to rationalize material and device designs. We work in close collaboration with clinical partners to bring conceptionally novel solutions to clinics.

Project background

By sophisticated nanoparticle engineering, we have conceived a toolbox that allows us to steer structure-function relationships and tailor nanoparticle bioactivity. Utilizing this toolbox, we have developed inorganic nanoparticle hybrids which support the different phases of wound healing.

Job description

In order to decisively advance this innovative inorganic nanoparticle-based technology, we are looking for a postdoctoral researcher interested in unravelling the mechanism of action and the fate of nanoparticle therapeutics by cutting-edge multiscale multimodal analytics, including (spectro)microscopy and multi-omics. We will offer training opportunities in advanced microscopy and spectromicroscopy techniques as well as functional biological assays. The position is initially limited to 18 months with the possibility of extension. The place of work will be Zurich with occasional visits to our satellite lab at the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science & Technology (Empa) in St. Gallen (1 hr drive/train ride from Zurich).

Your profile

We are looking for a postdoctoral scientist. Prior experience in in vitro and in vivo work, microscopy as well as biochemical tissue analysis is highly desirable. Experience in at least one of the following areas is a must: omics data analysis, electron microscopy, image analysis.

ETH Zurich is one of the world’s leading universities specialising in science and technology. We are renowned for our excellent education, cutting-edge fundamental research and direct transfer of new knowledge into society. Over 30,000 people from more than 120 countries find our university to be a place that promotes independent thinking and an environment that inspires excellence. Located in the heart of Europe, yet forging connections all over the world, we work together to develop solutions for the global challenges of today and tomorrow.
