The Institute of Clinical Sciences, Department of Surgery at the Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg invites applications for a researcher position in cancer research, with placement in Wallenberg Centre for Molecular and Translational Medicine at the Sahlgrenska Cancer Center. The research group has a strong desire to generate novel targets for cancer therapy and translate basic research findings into new and innovative clinical trials.

Job assignments

As a researcher will you study copper metabolism and its impact on redox metabolism in the progression of cancer using advanced animal models and cell culture. The ultimate goal is to improve prevention and treatment of solid cancers including breast cancer, lung cancer or melanoma. The position contains a lot of laboratory work, problem solving as well as implementing new techniques in the laboratory, especially regarding the investigation of copper metabolism. The position requires to work independently as well as in collaboration with both national and international colleagues. Identifying and setting-up relevant new collaborations is also expected for a successful project. The researcher will also be required to teach and supervise graduate and undergraduate students in the lab. Ability to work in a collaborative environment is a requirement.

Qualifications

The applicant must have a PhD degree in a field in relevant subject such as cancer therapy or tumor biology and medicine is compulsory for the position. The successful candidate should have a strong background in the field of redox biology and cancer progression and metastasis models. Other requirements are extensive practical laboratory experience, extensive experience in working with both in-vitro and in-vivo cancer models, molecular biology techniques such as Western blot and qPCR, and cancer-related assays.

The candidate should also have strong knowledge in the analysis of various biomedical databases (clinical trials databases; TCGA, cBioPortal, UniPorot etc.). Having advanced microscopy techniques is beneficial. The candidate should also be able to work in close collaboration with other lab members, and have experience in teaching graduate and under-graduate students. Meriting is strong self-discipline, problem-solution oriented workstyle, organizational skills and good communicative and interpersonal team skills. It is understood that the applicant masters scientific writing in English and has good general communication skills in English.

Following the qualitative overall assessment of skills and proficiency, applicants will be selected who are expected to have the best prerequisites for implementing and developing current tasks as well as contributing to a positive development of the scientific group.

Employment

The employment is limited (temporary) for 12 months, 100 % of full-time and is placed at The Institute of Clinical Sciences, The Department of Surgery. Starting date; As soon as possible
