The Department of Medical Sciences is a large clinical institution with more than 250 employees and over 300 additional coworkers connected via the Uppsala University Hospital. The Department of Medical Sciences has a broad research profile with strong research groups in a number of different areas. The research carried out at the department is performed in close connection with the clinical activities at the Uppsala University Hospital, which includes both basic studies on the causes of a variety of illnesses and the development and evaluation of improved diagnostics and new treatment methods. Project: In a research program granted by the Swedish Heart-Lung foundation, we aim to discover new pathophysiological pathways for the three common cardiovascular diseases, myocardial infarction, stroke and heart failure, by use of proteomics and metabolomics. Already collected data in several population-based epidemiological studies will be used; ULSAM, PIVUS, POEM EpiHealth and SCAPIS

Work duties: To perform statistical analyses using both traditional methods, such as logistic regression and Cox proportional hazard analyses, as well as machine learning methods to obtain results and thereafter to write and publish scientific papers. Also Mendelian randomization will be used.

Qualification: This position requires a doctoral degree in medicine, statisticts, or closely related disciplines.

To qualify for an employment as a postdoctor you must have a PhD degree or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD degree. The PhD degree must have been obtained no more than three years prior to the application deadline. The three year period can be extended due to circumstances such as sick leave, parental leave, duties in labour unions, etc.

Good knowledge in statistical methods used in epidemiological and -omics studies. Knowledge in working in R. Good writing capabilities in English.

Knowledge in cardiovascular diseases is desirable, but not necessary.

Salary: Individual salary.

Starting date: As soon as possible or as agreed.

Type of employment: Temporary position for two years according to central collective agreement.
