Assistant and Associate Professor of Strategic Human Resource Management

Are you an ambitious and enthusiastic scientist with expertise in Strategic Human Resource Management? As associate professor or assistant professor, you will teach students about and conduct cutting-edge research on the institutional context of employment relations. This way, you help the Strategic HRM Chair group to become an international centre of expertise on sustainable work, careers and employability for responsible organisations.

The Department of Business Administration at the Nijmegen School of Management, Radboud University, is looking for an Assistant Professor and for an Associate Professor of Strategic Human Research Management. We are in particular looking for a new colleague, either an Assistant or Associate Professor, who is specialising in the institutional context of employment relations. National and international legislation and labour market regulation; historical, social and political systems; and the power of labour unions and trade associations all have an impact on HRM strategies and the adoption of HRM practices within work organisations. As organisations operate in complex institutional environments, core expertise in this regard is important and will strengthen the Chair of Strategic HRM. As we are recruiting for two positions, you are warmly invited to apply, in case you are specialized in the institutional context of employment relations and/or in another subfield within the broader discipline of Strategic HRM.

As Assistant or Associate Professor of Strategic HRM, you will be part of the Strategic HRM Chair group within the Department of Business Administration which seeks to educate students for future challenges through our integral Business Administration study programme. Together with the other members of the Chair group and the Department of Business Administration, you will further develop the quality and impact of the group's teaching activities. The group participates in various courses in the Bachelor's degree programme of the Department of Business Administration, and is responsible for the Master's specialisation in Strategic Human Resources Leadership. The latter focuses on social processes in the management and responsible leadership of human resources from a multiple-stakeholder perspective. While taking into account the dynamics and complex international institutional contexts of today's working life, we increase students' ability to use, apply and reflect on theory and practice regarding the strategic role of HRM in the profit, services and public sectors.

As regards research, you will be expected to be strongly committed to act as a driving force for realising the Strategic HRM Chair group's ambition: to become an international centre of expertise on sustainable work, careers and employability for responsible organisations. You will help further strengthen these research pillars with specific attention to how age, gender and ethnicity intersect. The members of the Chair group have published in high-impact journals such as Academy of Management Annals, European Journal of Work and Organizational Psychology, Organization Studies, Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Management Studies, and Human Resource Management Journal.

Combining teaching and research skills, you should be able to inspire students conducting cutting-edge research. You will teach courses in the Bachelor's and the Master's programmes in Business Administration, conduct research in line with the Responsible Organisation programme, publish in international high-quality journals, attract external funding for research projects, acquire and supervise PhD projects, build (inter)national networks with businesses and academics, and contribute to central and departmental administration and management tasks.

Profile

  • You are an ambitious and enthusiastic scientist, and a strong team player, passionate about both research and education.
  • You have a PhD degree in business administration, management and organisation, or the social and behavioral sciences.
  • You have an excellent scientific reputation, evidenced by a strong publication record in internationally recognised high-quality journals on strategic human resource management topics.
  • You have active involvement in (inter)national collaborative networks and strong connections to organisational and business practice.
  • You have proven experience in attracting research funding from research councils and other external parties in case you apply for the Associate Professorship.
  • You have at least five years of experience in teaching and research in the field of employment relations and/or strategic human resource management at a university level in case you apply for the Associate Professorship.
  • You have good teaching skills, an enthusiasm for teaching and working with students, and the capacity to develop and implement innovative teaching methods as well as the ability to coordinate academic courses or study programmes. A Dutch university teaching qualification (BKO or UKO) or equivalent would be an advantage.
  • You have proven ability to supervise and inspire PhD candidates, to cooperate across disciplinary boundaries and to support an academic organisation in its administrative tasks as evidenced by coordination of a study programme and/or membership of internal committees and councils (e.g. a scientific advisory committee or examination board) in case you apply for the Associate Professorship.
  • You have outstanding English language skills and a willingness to learn Dutch.

We are

The Nijmegen School of Management (NSM) is an academic centre of research and higher education, focusing on institutional and managerial issues within complex organisations. There are seven disciplines within NSM: Business Administration, Public Administration, Political Science, Economics and Business Economics, Social and Political Sciences of the Environment, Human Geography, and Spatial Planning.

NSM strives for a multidisciplinary approach. Its educational programme is characterised by small-scale teaching, providing a stimulating learning environment with an emphasis on the development of academic skills. NSM employs 330 FTEs, 75% of whom are academics. NSM currently has approximately 5,000 students.

The mission of the Department of Business Administration is to educate future leaders in responsible organisations, offering an integral Business Administration programme focusing on societal problems and social processes in organisations. We co-create knowledge with multiple stakeholders in the wider community to ensure the impact of our scholarly work. There are five chair groups: Marketing, Organisation Design and Development, Strategic Management, Strategic HRM, and Research and Intervention Methodology. Together, we are responsible for the BSc programmes in Business Administration (including a full track in English, and a track in International Business Administration) as well as eight specialisations within the MSc programme in Business Administration (all in English).

NSM's research activities fall under the responsibility of the interdisciplinary Institute for Management Research (IMR). Under the motto 'Responsible governance for sustainable societies', IMR focuses on academic research into the development, design and effectiveness of the public and private structures that regulate, govern or manage human interactions. The academic debate is organised in the IMR Academy; the PhD programme is organised in the IMR Doctoral School. In addition to the interdisciplinary research programme on Responsible Organisation, there are six multidisciplinary research groups at IMR dedicated to strategic and scientifically and societally relevant issues. IMR also hosts the Individual Decision lab and Group Decision lab, which are especially suited for studying collaboration in complex contexts and collective decision-making.
