Assistant Professor Law & Sustainability

 



The Department of International and European Law  external linkat the Utrecht University School of Law is looking for an Assistant Professor who will be involved in both Bachelor's and Master's programmes, in particular the new UU Master's programme Law & Sustainability. The lecturer will also supervise Bachelor's and Master's theses and may be assigned coordination and tutoring tasks. Although the emphasis will be on academic teaching, the position includes 0.3 FTE research.

Qualifications

We are looking for a candidate with a broad knowledge of environmental law with a particular focus on sustainability law at both EU and international level. Knowledge in environmental and/or sustainability matters, also from an economic or social perspective (at an EU and/or international level) is a plus. 

In particular the following requirements apply:

  • You have a PhD, preferably in one or more fields covered by the Master's programmes Law and Sustainability in Europe and Public International Law.
  • You have experience and strong skills in academic teaching.
  • Experience in developing and coordinating courses is an asset.
  • You have an excellent command of written and spoken English. A working knowledge of Dutch is an asset. Non-Dutch speaking candidates should be prepared to acquire a good passive knowledge of the Dutch language.
  • You have a Basic Teaching Qualification (BKO) or are willing to acquire one soon.
  • You are a team player and have strong interpersonal skills in establishing and maintaining contact with colleagues and students in a diverse and international environment.

Offer

We offer a position (1.0 FTE) for a period of 18 months. In case of a good performance, permanent employment is one of the possibilities. The gross salary - depending on previous qualifications and experience  - ranges between €3,821 and €5,230 (scale 11 according to the Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities) per month for a full-time employment. Salaries are supplemented with a holiday bonus of 8% and a year-end bonus of 8.3% per year. You will be working at the Department International and European Law of the School of Law. The department International and European Law (IER) of the Utrecht School of Law is responsible for education and research in the fields of international public law, European law, social law, economic public law and human rights.

The Department of International and European Law participates in the multidisciplinary research programmes of Utrecht University and is involved in commissioned research and consultancy. The School of Law’s legal research has organised its research into five main research programmes:

  • Utrecht Centre for Accountability and Liability Law (UCALL);
  • Utrecht Centre for Regulation and Enforcement in Europe (RENFORCE);
  • Utrecht Centre for European Research into Family Law (UCERF);
  • Utrecht Centre for Water, Oceans and Sustainability Law (UCWOSL);
  • Montaigne Centre for Rule of Law and Administration of Justice.
