We are looking for a PhD student in applied physics with the focus on material science

Your workplace
At the Laboratory of Organic Electronics (LOE, www.liu.se/LOE), we study conducting organic materials and hybrid materials, and their use in an array of areas spanning energy harvesting, printed electronics, photonics, and bioelectronics.

The announced position will be part of the Organic Energy Materials (OEM) group at LOE, under supervision of Prof. Xavier Crispin and Asst. Prof. Dan Zhao.

Your work assignments
The PhD studies of this position will focus on developing thermal energy harvesting materials devices and systems based on gel electrolytes, thermogalavnics and/or ionic thermoelectrics. The work will be conducted in collaboration with several companies within a European project.

As a doctoral student, you devote most of your time to doctoral studies and the research projects of which you are part. Your work may also include teaching or other departmental duties, up to a maximum of 20% of full-time.

Your qualifications
You have graduated at Master’s level in polymer chemistry or electrochemistry or completed courses with a minimum of 240 credits, at least 60 of which must be in advanced courses in chemistry or physics. Alternatively, you have gained essentially corresponding knowledge in another way.

We seek applicants with strong interest in, and preferably experience of, the relevant fields of the proposed research, primarily materials characterization, polymer chemistry, electrochemistry. Experience in electronic measurement methods, polymer processing by electrospinning and/or thermogalvanics are meritorious. We also value qualities such as strong ability to communicate and collaborate, good ability to express yourself and write in English, analytical ability, motivation and commitment.

Terms of employment
When taking up the post, you will be admitted to the program for doctoral studies. More information about the doctoral studies at each faculty is available at.

The employment has a duration of four years’ full-time equivalent. You will initially be employed for a period of one year. The employment will subsequently be renewed for periods of maximum duration two years, depending on your progress through the study plan. The employment may be extended up to a maximum of five years, based on the amount of teaching and departmental duties you have carried out. Further extensions can be granted in special circumstances.

Starting date
Spring/summer 2022 or by agreement.

Salary and employment benefits
The salary of doctoral students is determined according to a locally negotiated salary progression.
