Three PhD positions for EOS project "High-dimensional expanders and Kac-Moody-Steinberg groups"
One position in UGent (4 years), one position in UCLouvain (4 years) and one joint PhD (2 years in UCLouvain + 2 years in UGent)

YOUR TASKS

  • At least 90% of your assignment will be spent on academic research in preparation of a doctoral dissertation.
  • You will be contributing to the EOS project "High-dimensional expanders and Kac-Moody-Steinberg groups". More information can be found on https://algebra.ugent.be/~tdemedts/EOS2021.pdf.
  • You will be part of various larger teams: on the one hand, you will be a department member; on the other hand, you will be part of a research team across the two universities (UGent and UCLouvain).
  • You will be invited to take part in educational activities, such as exercise sessions for bachelor and/or master courses.

Job profile

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • You hold a Master’s degree in Mathematics (or equivalent).
  • You have team spirit and a strong ability to work in a larger group. In addition, you have good communicative skills.
  • You are perseverant and dedicated. You are motivated to take an active part in the development of new mathematical knowledge.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

  • We offer you a PhD position (PhD Dehousse bursary) for 4 years (1 year + renewable for 3 years in UGent, 2 years + renewable for 2 years in UCLouvain).
  • The starting date of your position can be discussed. A typical starting date is October 1, 2022.
  • You will have ample funds for research visits, conferences, inviting research partners, ... (after approval of your promotor).
  • We can offer language classes in Dutch (UGent) and French (UCLouvain).
  • You will have a net monthly income of approximately €2000, depending on your personal situation and family status.
