At the Department of Politics and Society, The Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, a position as assistant professor (with tenure track option) or Associate professor is available from September 1 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Department of Politics & Society at Aalborg University invites applications for one or more positions as assistant or associate professor in public policy & administration. We particularly welcome applications from candidates with a scientific focus on public management, street level bureaucracy, policy evaluation, AI and digital innovation in the public sector. Candidates with alternative research interests in public policy & administration are also encouraged to apply.

The successful candidates are expected to teach in public administration, public management and/or public policy at the level of BSc, MSc and at the midcareer master program in public governance. The preferred candidates have a background in political science, public administration or public policy. Experience with teaching in research methods (qualitative, quantitative and/or computational) is considered an advantage but not a requirement. Research at the Department of Politics & Society is organized into four disciplinary clusters and the successful applicants are expected to contribute significantly to research and teaching within the Public Administration & Digitalization and/or Institutions, Policy & Behavior cluster. Assistant/associate professors are expected to publish research in relevant high quality academic journals and to contribute to developing their areas of research and teaching at the department.

Applicants should indicate if they are applying for a position at the level of assistant professor or associate professor. An assistant professorship is a temporarily position with a maximum duration of four years. Highly qualified candidates can be appointed as tenure-track assistant professors on a six-year contract with the prospect of performance-based advancement to a tenured position as associate professor. An internal assessment committee will conduct a mid-term evaluation after 3 years, and an external assessment committee will conduct a final review after 5.5 years. If the assessment is positive, the candidate will be offered a tenured position as associate professor. The vacancies are open for appointment from September 1st 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Qualifications and requirements
Applicants must demonstrate research and teaching qualifications at a high level. For applicants for assistant professorships this means qualifications equivalent to those achieved after the successful completion of a PhD. Applicants for tenure-track assistant professorships are expected to have international academic standing, demonstrating acclaimed competitive research, show considerable potential to be among the best in their field of research, has academic experience from other preferably international academic institutions. Applicants for associate professorships must demonstrate research qualifications and teaching skills equivalent to those achieved after a successful period of employment as an assistant professor or postdoc with some teaching obligations, have published a significant body of independent high-quality peer-reviewed works, and demonstrate progression beyond academic work related to the PhD dissertation. Employment as associate professor presupposes a positive assessment of documented teaching qualifications.

Assessment
An expert assessment committee will assess all candidates and shortlisting will be applied. Hence, following the deadline for applications the head of department, supported by the chair of the assessment committee, selects candidates for academic assessment. All applicants receive information whether or not they are selected for academic assessment. The selected applicants receive information about the composition of the assessment committee, and are given an opportunity to comment on the assessment of their own qualifications. As a final stage of the process, a statement of the outcome is sent to all applicants.

Employment will be in accordance with the stipulations of the Danish Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities (The Appointment Order), and the Danish Ministry of Finance's current circular on Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities. Employment and remuneration will be in accordance with the collective agreements for academics employed by the Danish state. Workplace is in Aalborg.
