At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Mathematical Sciences, a position as full professor in mathematics-economics is open for appointment starting from January 1, 2023, or soon hereafter. The position will be located at the campus of Aalborg University in Aalborg. At the Department of Mathematical Sciences, we conduct research and teaching in a wide variety of mathematical disciplines. Likewise, we are actively engaged in a variety of interdisciplinary research projects with partners from other fields (economy, engineering, physics, medicine etc). The department offers an international and informal working environment with long a tradition for social interaction and collaboration among colleagues. The mathematics-economics group currently consists of three associate professors and the group is a part of the Section for Statistics and Mathematics-Economics. The group was established only a decade ago and the professor will therefore find room for marking and developing the research agenda of the group and the mathematics-economics programme.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Position description 

As professor in mathematics-economics you will contribute to:

• Methodological research in mathematics-economics with focus on one or more of the following areas:
  • econometrics
  • quantitative finance
  • operations research
• Developing the mathematics-economics group including attracting PhD-students, post docs and permanent staff.

• Teaching in the mathematics-economics programme as well as teaching mathematics and statistics at the study programmes in Engineering and Social Sciences. Aalborg University has three campuses (in Esbjerg, Copenhagen and Aalborg) and teaching can be at all campuses. The majority of the teaching tasks are in Danish and the selected applicant is therefore expected to acquire proficiency in the Danish language within a few years.

• Funding and external collaboration. The selected applicant must take a lead for acquiring external funding for research and expansion of the mathematics-economics group. This will involve collaboration with colleagues from the Department of Mathematical Sciences, other departments at Aalborg University and industrial partners.

The ideal candidate has:

• A PhD degree in a relevant topic within the above-mentioned areas of mathematics-economics

• An excellent research record in terms of publications

• A good track record regarding external funding

• A strategy for future research and funding activities

The ability to contribute to the development of external collaboration and to secure external funding will be considered and the applicant is expected to have excellent interpersonal skills. Special contributions to the development of educational and teaching related activities will be considered in the overall assessment.

Qualification requirements:
The successful applicant can demonstrate a documented high level of original scientific production at an international level, including proven further development of the research area in question. An assessment of the candidate’s undertaking of research management and/or other possible management functions will also be taken into account. In addition the applicant is expected to have the qualifications required for undertaking teaching responsibilities. Special contributions to and development of educational and teaching related areas will be considered in the overall assessment.

AGREEMENT

Appointment and salary acc. to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of professional Associations (AC) on Academics in the State. Employment as Professor is in accordance with a classified position on scale 37. In addition, a pensionable increment will be given.
