Research Engineer in in situ sequencing

 


Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab) is a national center for large-scale life sciences with a focus on health and environmental research. SciLifeLab combines advanced technical state-of-the-art equipment’s with a broad knowledge of transnational medicine and molecular life sciences. The combination of the highly interdisciplinary expertise and research projects at the department is unique in Sweden and also at an international level.

The national facility for the in situ sequencing (ISS) unit located at SciLifeLab in Solna, is now seeking a research engineer, who performs ISS technology. In situ sequencing enables highly multiplexed RNA profiling directly in cells and even whole tissue sections while retaining the spatial information of all molecules sampled. In order to make this technology accessible to researchers nationwide, the facility provide the ISS services.

Main responsibilities
The main responsibility of the role is to work on projects for external users, but the position also includes internal research and development. Wet lab work includes processing tissue samples, performing ISS library preparation and ISS cyclic detection, as well as handling sensitive instruments such as fluorescence microscopes and liquid handling robots. Office work includes image data processing/analysis and writing project reports. Depending on the background and interest of the applicant, more time can be spent on image data processing/analysis.

Qualification requirements 

  • At least a Bachelor of Science degree or similar. Prior work experience from the biotech industry, academic core-facilities, clinical laboratories or similar will be given high priority.
  • Previous experience with wet lab work, mainly working with molecular biology or equivalent. Experience with in situ hybridization or similar technique is highly desirable.
  • Experience in fluorescence microscopy. Basic knowledge in histology and/or quantitative image analysis and programming is an advantage.
  • Prior experience with LIMS and ELN is beneficial.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills in English. 

Personal qualifications
Great emphasis will be placed on personal competency. The successful candidate should be reliable, structured, independent and a good team player. You enjoy working in the research lab, learning new methods and have the ability to drive projects forward. You should also have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and good problem solving abilities. For this position, it is also important to be quality focused and service minded.

Terms of employment
The position involves full-time employment for a maximum of two years, with the possibility of extension under special circumstances. Start date as per agreement. Salaries at Stockholm University are determined individually.
