The division of Industrial Biotechnology is looking for a researcher to fortify our research activities. This position will include participation and management of novel research projects, and the candidate will have possibility to develop/demonstrate their own research leadership. Within this position, you will also be expected to apply for your own research funding to become a senior independent researcher.

Information about the division and the research
The Division of Industrial Biotechnology is an interdisciplinary and highly international group of researchers established in 2008, currently composed of around 45 members. The research in the division revolves around microbiology and fermentation, enzymology, and molecular biology, with a general focus of using renewable raw materials for the sustainable production of fuels, chemicals and materials. A large variety of scientific instruments are available in our laboratory facilities, and in addition several core facilities are available at the university and its close vicinity. The Department of Biology and Biological Engineering (BIO) includes three additional research divisions, and collaboration between these is encouraged.

Major responsibilities
The main responsibilities of this position is to carry out research in structural biology, biochemistry, and molecular biology, as well as the associated analytics to monitor e.g. enzyme substrates/products and metabolites. You will be expected to apply for own research funding from (inter)national governmental and private funders, either to support ongoing activities or to develop your own research projects. Added to this, you will be expected to develop your leadership and pedagogical expertise, for which Chalmers offers several courses. You will also be expected to develop your leadership/pedagogical qualities by supervising or mentoring PhD- and undergraduate students. Teaching at PhD- or undergraduate level may be included in the position.

You will be expected to communicate your results in different settings, from meetings with advisors and collaborators, to presentations at the research division and at international conferences. Additionally, you will be expected to disseminate results by publication of articles in scientific journals.

Contract terms
Full-time permanent employment.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position you must hold a PhD in biochemistry, molecular biology, biotechnology or similar, which should have been followed by postdoctoral experience with a clear research output. You must demonstrate expertise and experience in biochemistry/enzymology, where experience in studies of carbohydrate-active or other biomass-degrading enzymes is highly meritorious). This further includes heterologous protein production in different hosts, and expertise in protein purification. You must also have expertise in structural biology (e.g. X-ray crystallography and SAXS), as well as molecular biology (cloning, site-directed mutagenesis). Furthermore, expertise in relevant analytics (HPLC, HPAEC-PAD, spectrophotometry) is mandatory, to e.g. monitor enzyme activity or metabolites. Expertise or experience in these areas must be demonstrated in the candidate's published work in scientific peer-reviewed articles.

You should demonstrate experience in supervision and/or mentoring of PhD/undergraduate students and you should be able to reflect on your leadership philosophy and approach. Furthermore, you should demonstrate previous involvement in successful (international) collaboration, either via joint publications or through personal references, and have a collaborative and team-oriented mindset.
