The Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (MIPS) is Australia’s largest, most experienced and successful group of pharmaceutical scientists. MIPS has strong partnerships with industry leaders, including the global drug companies such as Johnson and Johnson, Servier and Takeda, and attracts substantial support from industry, government and funding agencies such as ARC, NHMRC, Victorian State Government, the National Institutes of Health in the US, the World Health Organisation (WHO), and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

An exciting opportunity has become available for a Senior Associate, Business Development to join the Faculty Office within the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences to support engagement and business development with industry and government networks to generate income and achieve “impact from innovation” through the research outcomes and capabilities of the Faculty. Working closely with the Senior Business Development Manager, you will support the faculty operation in identifying, engaging, and developing partnership opportunities between the industry and the University (in particular MIPS within the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences), including substantial contract management activities.

This can include:

  • Fostering productive relationships with the corporate sector to create strategic R&D opportunities
  • Utilising robust and reliable costing models to prepare accurate data for contracts under the University costing policy
  • Developing and maintaining excellent working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Working with the Business Development Manager and Monash Innovation on various strategic developments whereby marketing and licensing tactics can be identified and implemented
  • Maintaining and developing networks and links into the industry, the investment community, and relevant government authorities

This position is suited to a highly motivated individual who holds a postgraduate qualification, or currently progressing towards a postgraduate qualification, with extensive relevant experience; or extensive experience and management expertise; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training. Additionally, the successful candidate will ideally have experience working in a university or other academic research environment. A strong knowledge of business development, contract negotiations, and intellectual property management and licensing will be essential to this role.
