 The Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems offers a position as a Research Coordinator in ELLIS (m/f/d).

About us

ELLIS (European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems) is a European AI network of excellence. It focuses on fundamental science, technical innovation and societal impact. ELLIS brings together leading scientists engaged in the research fields of machine learning and modern AI. ELLIS is co-funded by the Tübingen AI Center, one of five German national Centers of excellence for research on artificial intelligence.

Tasks and responsibilities

You will support, coordinate, and/or manage

  • Different scientific activities in the ELLIS network and research cooperation with academic and industrial partners.
  • Third party funding (proposals, planning, administration, reporting).
  • Communication with funding agencies and stakeholders.
  • Scientific visits (PhD students, interns, talks, etc.).
  • Budget planning.
  • Preparation of evaluation reports.
  • External visits, presentations.
  • Workshops and other internal and external events.
  • General administrative processes.
  • Supporting scientists with different organizational tasks.

Your profile

  • Completed scientific higher education (Master degree or equivalent, preferably a PhD) in natural sciences, engineering and/or related fields.
  • Knowledge of standard software packages is required.
  • We expect very good command of both English and German (at least C1 level).
  • Professional experience in science management would be an asset.
  • We expect that candidates would be prepared to do business trips in Europe as part of their job.
  • Very strong management and organizational skills.
  • Great interpersonal and communication skills.

You will work closely and collaboratively with scientists, other research coordinators, students, programmers, administrative staff, IT support, and central scientific facilities to help achieve the scientific goals of the ELLIS initiative.

Salaries will be based on experience according to TVöD guidelines. An initial contract will be offered for two years, with the possibility of extension. This is a full-time position. The work location will be at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems in Tübingen.
