The Design for interaction Lab in the Faculty of Design sciences is looking for a full-time doctoral scholarship holder in the field of behavioural design.

Position

  • You will work actively on the preparation and defence of a PhD thesis in the field of Design for interaction and Behavioural design.
  • You actively participate in the research project “Behavioural design: Mapping out challenges and opportunities.“ Behavioural design is increasingly recognised as a key method and strategy for enabling social change.  However, as a sub-discipline of design, it is facing a number of key issues, including a lack of understanding of how it is actually used, and how effective it is. The suggested project seeks to address this by (1) engaging directly with key stakeholders in both the private and public sectors to explore how behavioural design is currently applied and understood. (2) conducting a systematic mapping review of relevant work in the public and private sector.
  • You will contribute to the research project through conducting a literature review and engaging with key stakeholders through interviews and workshops.
  • You will publish scientific articles related to the research project.
  • You will help, in collaboration with project supervisors, in preparing a FWO PhD Fellowship fundamental research.
  • You might be able to assist in teaching and some research support tasks related to the research project, although this will depend on the profile and willingness of the applicant.

Profile

  • You hold a Master degree in either Design Sciences, Psychology, Sociology, anthropology or a related field.
  • You can demonstrate excellent study results.
  • If applicable, your teaching competences are in line with the University of Antwerp’s educational vision.
  • Your research qualities are in line with the faculty and university research policies.
  • You have some experience conducting a literature review
  • You have some experience conducting interviews and / or facilitating workshops
  • You act with attention to quality, integrity, creativity and cooperation.

What we offer

  • We offer a doctoral scholarship for a period of one year.
  • The planned start date is October 1st 2022, or as soon as possible after that date.
  • Your monthly scholarship amount is calculated according to the scholarship amounts for doctoral scholarship holders on the pay scales for Contract Research Staff.
  • You will receive a laptop and a support to participate in conferences where appropriate.
  • You will receive ecocheques, internet-connectivity allowance, and a bicycle allowance or a full reimbursement of public transport costs for commuting.
  • You will do most of your work in the brand new Design for Interaction lab, in a dynamic and stimulating working environment.
