Information about the division and the research
At the Microwave Electronics Laboratory (MEL) we perform application-relevant research on active high-speed electronic components, circuits, and subsystems. A major part of our research targets the need for higher capacity and improved energy efficiency in future wireless communication systems. We investigate drastically new wireless solutions, involving devices with hundreds of antennas and millimetre-wave frequency bands. One of our main research objectives is, therefore, to establish a new generation of wireless hardware that can be scalable to the needs in such future applications.
More specifically, the research is focused on the co-design of highly integrated millimetre-wave transmit and receive circuits with on- and off-chip digital signal processing algorithms. The goal is to obtain maximum flexibility and system-level performance with minimum energy consumption and to explore the ultimate limits and tradeoffs between energy efficiency, linearity, capacity and frequency in future 6G and massive MIMO hardware solutions.

Major responsibilities
In this post-doctoral position, your major responsibility will be to investigate high-performance integrated silicon-based transmitter circuit designs for future wireless communication applications. Your main research focus will be on the design and characterization of highly efficient and linearized millimetre-wave transmitters in state-of-the-art RF CMOS technologies. You will work in a team of PhD students and senior researchers working both with digital- and analog circuit building blocks. Most of your time will be available for your own research but will also involve the supervision of PhD and MSc thesis students within the research team.

Qualifications
To qualify, you should hold a doctoral degree, awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline (according to the current agreement with the Swedish Agency for Government Employers), in microwave or radio frequency electronics, integrated circuit design, or other related disciplines. Experience in the design of integrated circuits in the Cadence design environment is required.

The successful candidate will have an outstanding academic track record and have published first-authored papers in internationally recognized peer-reviewed journals. Previous experience in power amplifier design is an important merit. Important qualities are also enthusiasm, ablility to drive and conclude projects independently, taking own initiatives and discussing/developing own ideas, being creative and having a problem-solving ability. The project is in collaboration with other researchers and industry and thus excellent cooperation and social abilities are highly important. Good communication skills in English are necessary as English is the primary language in our laboratory. If Swedish is not your native language, Chalmers can offer Swedish courses.

Contract terms
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to three years (2+1).
