Journalist-in-Residence Fellowship | Max Planck Institute for the History of Science

Journalist-in-Residence Fellowship at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science, Guest residencies for journalists with a focus on the history, philosophy, politics, and sociology of science

The Max Planck Institute for the History of Science, Berlin, offers guest journalist residencies of up to two months each. The fellowships would take place in the first half of 2023. The fellowship presents the opportunity to gain insight into ongoing research in the disciplines of the history, philosophy, politics, and sociology of science, to network and engage with MPIWG researchers, and to carry out a journalistic project in these fields. Successful applicants are supported in their work through access to the Institute’s extensive library and research resources, and can attend colloquia and workshops across all research units. During the residency, Journalists in Residence will be affiliated with the Institute’s department or research group that best fits the research proposal, and will be supported and mentored by the communications team.

Remuneration for the period of the residency will be €3,000 per month. The MPIWG also provides desk space at the Institute.

The objectives of the fellowship program are to support high-quality journalism in the history of science and related disciplines, promote the public dissemination of topics in this academic field, foster an awareness of the importance of humanities and social sciences in science communication, and strengthen the dialogue that the history of science enables among the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. In addition, the program aims to give researchers at the Institute the opportunity to find ways of enhancing the public communication of their research. Journalists in Residence will therefore be expected to deliver a workshop for MPIWG researchers on a topic in journalism/communication during their fellowship.
