Post-Doc (w/m/d) in electrochemical energy storage (Next Generation Batteries)

Next-generation batteries will play an important role in future applications in the automotive industry and for stationary energy storage. Key areas of research and development are increasing the energy density and operational reliability of new battery concepts, with all solid state batteries being the most promising one. For market entry, scalable manufacturing processes for ceramic solid-state batteries must be developed and demonstrated on a larger scale. Within the framework of an EU-funded joint project, your tasks will therefore include the following:

  • Fabrication of ceramic components of solid-state batteries (cathodes and separators) using established and new industrial processes (e.g. film casting, screen printing, FAST/SPS).
  • Scaling of manufactured components and production of complete solid-state batteries, their electrochemical measurement as well as optimization of cell performance (improvement of cell design and microstructure)
  • Analysis of starting materials as well as components in terms of quality and performance (including X-ray diffraction (XRD), various types of microscopy, secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), etc.)
  • Evaluation, documentation and publication of the results, especially with regard to industrial feasibility
  • Cooperation with and co-supervision of doctoral students as well as coordination with project partners

Your Profile:

  • PhD degree with excellent grades in natural science ((electro-) chemistry, physics, materials sciences,…) or engineering with a materials science orientation
  • Sound knowledge of materials science and natural sciences
  • Experience with inorganic synthesis und ceramic processing
  • Knowledge of electrochemistry is an advantage
  • Experience in project management and the ability to cooperate cooperatively
  • Very good knowledge of German and English (oral and written)
  • A high degree of flexibility and motivation as well as ability to work independently
