Postdoctoral position in pedagogy with a focus on gender and intersectionality

 The Department of Education invites applications for a postdoctoral position in pedagogy with a focus on gender and intersectionality. We welcome international applicants.

Duties
The applicant is expected to plan and carry out independent research within a project of their choice but is also expected to collaborate with other researchers in the department and with researchers from other disciplines. Up to 20% of the position may be used for departmental duties, such as teaching.

About the position
The position is a full-time, fixed-term position for two years starting 1 October 2022 (subject to negotiation). The position is located at the Department of Education, Umeå University. The person employed is expected to be active in the department's research environment and daily activities. It is primarily linked to the area of Gender and Pedagogical Processes in Society (GePS) but also aims to strengthen the education department’s gender research and training.

Eligibility
To be eligible for the position, you must have completed a doctoral degree (or equivalent) before the contract is signed, in pedagogy or another subject relevant to the field. Those previously employed at Umeå University for more than one year as a postdoctoral researcher in this or any related subject area are not eligible to apply

Applicants should normally have attained their PhD no more than three years before the application deadline. The exceptions to this include periods of sick leave, parental leave, employment in clinical practice, appointments of trust for a trade union organisation or other similar circumstances. Proficiency in written and spoken English is also required. You are also expected to have good collaborative skills and the ability to work both independently and in groups. The postdoctoral position is subject to the Agreement on the Temporary Employment of Postdoctoral Fellows (Avtal om tidsbegränsad anställning som postdoktor), which is valid from 1 February 2022. 

Assessment criteria
We are seeking a motivated and responsible colleague who wants to develop as an individual researcher and contribute to research in the department.

The essential criteria for employment include previous and planned research relevant to the position as well as the ability to carry out research both independently and in groups. The successful candidate will have plans for high-quality research that is methodologically sound and has the potential to contribute to the field of pedagogy research. A focus on gender and intersectionality are also essential. 

University-level pedagogical qualifications and experience, as well as formal training for teaching at university level are desirable, but not essential.
