Appointment program
The Department of Product Realization conducts education and research in the areas of computer-aided design, integrated product development and industrial design. The department has a strong teaching commitment and teaches a number of courses at both basic and advanced levels, in everything from design and all the way to mechanical engineering. We work in close collaboration with the industry with realistic issues and extensive project courses. Our research is conducted at the intersection of industrial design, product development and construction. In our research, we strive for high industrial and societal relevance.

The teaching for this employment will largely take place in two programs, the international master's program in Design and the master's program in Design and Product Development (DPU).

The holder must be able to work within all levels of undergraduate education and collaborate with colleagues within as well as outside the subject area. Furthermore, you will work in a creative and changing environment where you are expected to get involved in the department's development. Within the framework of the employment, you are expected to support students in developing future products and services. Within the framework of this employment, you will be able to run courses in the design and product development area as well as supervise and examine various product development projects and degree projects.

Your educational background:

  • We are looking for you who have an educational background in industrial design with solid professional experience in the industry and/or academia.
  • It is an advantage if you can present an interdisciplinary educational background with degrees from different fields, such as technology, social sciences, natural sciences or humanities. It is a requirement that the candidate has a demonstrable track record in user-centred design. This can be made credible by at least one degree (eg bachelor's degree, master's degree or doctoral degree) that falls within a relevant design area (eg industrial design or interaction design or by a portfolio of industrial projects.

Regarding pedagogical skills, the following will be assessed:

  • You have teaching experience in design-related subjects.
  • You must be able to demonstrate pedagogical skills by providing documented experience in both the artistic and craft parts of industrial design, as well as to safely master technical and systemic aspects. The experience can come from your personal educational background, professional experience or previous teaching activities.
  • Experiences that qualify you for teaching design for sustainable product development count as a strong merit.
  • Pedagogical skills in one or more of the following subjects are meritorious: Visualization (eg sketching, computer graphics, virtual and/or augmented reality), ergonomics, user research and ­testing, material-driven design.

 Applicable scientific skills will be assessed as follows:

  • You must have a documented expertise in design methodology or sustainable industrial design
  • You have a PhD or equivalent
  • Your research profile is based on qualitative or mixed methods.
  • You can present a suitable track record for your particular subdiscipline of design research. It can - but does not have to be exclusive - include articles (in magazines and conferences), books and book chapters, exhibitions, artefacts and patents.


Within the department, priority is given to close collaboration with companies and organizations within the research and education programs. Documented competence in collaboration with other researchers, as well as in outreach activities and collaboration with companies and industry is merit for employment.

The applicant must show the ability to teach in English. Speaking a Scandinavian language already is a strong merit. Candidates who do not have Swedish as their mother tongue are expected to be able to teach Swedish within three years.
 
Qualifications 
To be qualified for this appointment the applicant must have demonstrated teaching proficiency, received a Degree of Doctor or have the equivalent academic expertise or other professional skill which is of significance with consideration for the subject relevant to the appointment and the associated duties.  
 
Here, the definition of “equivalent academic expertise” is a documented foreign degree which is deemed to be at least equivalent to a Degree of Doctor.  
 
The definition of “other professional skill” is relevant professional skill gained outside of higher education. Other professional skill can be considered as a condition of eligibility only for employment in which proven experience within a profession is important. 
 
Grounds for assessment 
As grounds for assessment when appointing a senior lecturer, the level of proficiency required to qualify for the appointment shall apply.  
 
As much attention shall be given to the assessment of teaching proficiency as to other conditions of eligibility. 
 
For this position, equal weight is given to scholarly and teaching

Scholarly proficiency must have been demonstrated through: original research resulting in publication, through planning and managing research and third-cycle courses and study programmes and through the ability to obtain research grants Scholarly proficiency can also be demonstrated through the ability to achieve results in research through collaboration with other teachers and through the ability to provide information about research. 

Teaching proficiency is demonstrated through the ability to convey relevant knowledge and skills, to stimulate students such that they drive their own learning process, to create engagement and interest in the subject area, and the ability to structure and organise both the content and forms of work in relation to the goals of the subject area. In addition, the teaching proficiency must have been demonstrated through the ability to contribute to the development and renewal of education and the ability to reflect on their own attitude to education and the results of their work. 
 
Collaboration with society is an integral part of the research and educational mission of the higher education institution, where the ability to use collaboration with society as a means to raise the quality of the education and research, its relevance, dissemination, accessibility and application may constitute grounds for assessment.  
 
Collaboration within education is demonstrated through the ability to plan, arrange and carry out productive collaboration in an educational context, with the aim of ensuring the relevance of the education and its role in preparing for professional life. 
 
Collaboration within research is demonstrated by the ability to disseminate, make accessible and benefit from research through the production and dissemination of popular scientific material, collaborative projects with external non-academic actors, commissioned consulting as expert, mobility projects, commercialisation, and activities undertaken within the framework of permitted secondary employment. 
 
The applicant should show an ability to teach in English. It is desirable that the successful candidate with another mother tongue than Swedish should be able to teach in Swedish within two years from being appointed.
