Hereby advertises a position as Postdoc in cardiac image processing and deep learning.

Your duties
The postdoc in this announcement will focus on development of methods that support efficient image processing of cardiac Computer Tomography (CT) data for advanced assessment of the functioning of the beating heart.

The use of CT imaging of the heart is quickly increasing in cardiac diagnostics. Especially using the latest equipment, extremely high-resolution 4D data of the heart can be obtained in a few seconds. Currently, clinical analysis of this data mainly focusses on anatomical assessment. More advanced data analysis, assessing cardiac function, is hampered by the large size of the data.

The emphasis will be the use of high-resolution time-resolved spectral data of the heart that will be acquired using a novel photon-counting detector CT (PCCT). Based on this data, time-varying data representing the hearts anatomy, its dynamics, the blood flow, and myocardial strain will be obtained. Responsibilities include development of methods for segmentation and analysis of PCCT data. Publication of the work in scientific journals is also included in the assignment. The Postdoc will essentially carry out research.

Your working environment
Your will be employed at the Department of Medicine, Health and caring Sciences and have your working place at the Center for Medical Imaging and Visualization (CMIV, www.liu.se/cmiv). CMIV is an interdisciplinary research center situated at the medical campus of Linköping University. CMIV owns 3 MRI and 2 CT systems dedicated to research, of which one is a unique photon-counting CT. Within CMIV, the interdisciplinary cardiovascular imaging research group conducts technical development and application of advanced MRI and CT techniques in the cardiovascular field. The group owns very powerful computers for machine learning and the project also has access to the Berzelius SuperPod consisting of 480 NVIDIA A100 GPUs

This position is part of a joint collaboration between the two largest research programs in Sweden, the Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP) and the SciLifeLab and Wallenberg National Program for Data-Driven Life Science (DDLS), with the ultimate goal of solving ground-breaking research questions across disciplines. The SciLifeLab and Wallenberg National Program for Data-Driven Life Science (DDLS) is a 12-year initiative that focuses on data-driven research, within fields essential for improving the people´s lives, detecting and treating diseases, protecting biodiversity and creating sustainability. The programme will train the next generation of life scientists and create a strong computational and data science base. The program aims to strengthen national collaborations between universities, bridge the research communities of life sciences and data sciences, and create partnerships with industry, healthcare and other national and international actors. Within the WASP-DDLS financed project “Huge Complex Diagnostic Imaging Data”, two postdocs will work jointly on a pipeline for the generation of personalized models from huge complex imaging data.

Your qualifications
You have good knowledge in programming and image processing. Experience in imaging processing of medical images, and especially 3D or 4D cardiovascular medical images is an advantage. Knowledge in deep learning of medical images is an advantage.

You have good English language skills both in terms of speech and writing, as we are multilingual within the research group. You have good communication skills and have easy to collaborate with others.

The position requires a doctorate degree or an equivalent degree from a foreign university, preferably obtained no more than three years before the application deadline for this position.
