Research Engineer

Description of the workplace 
You will be working at the department of Electrical and Information technology, and primary in the divisions of Communications engineering and Integrated electronic systems. These divisions are building a common platform to test the next generation of communication systems. The work will be done in close collaboration with researchers and PhD-students at the department.

Work duties 
During the first years a large part of your tasks will be to develop and support the platform for testing of new wireless technologies, LIS – Large Intelligent Surfaces, that is being built at the department. This consists of a very large number of transmitters and receivers, all with their respective antennas, spread over a large surface. The testbed is financed both from Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research and an ELLIIT infrastructure project. With the help of the ELLIIT-financing it will also include network servers and remote operated mobile units that will make it possible to perform experiments from a distance without physical presence, which will open up the use of the platform for more users. Later the work will include development and operation of other test beds, research projects and experiments at the department. The tasks might change over time.

Qualifications 
We are looking for a research engineer in the boundary between hardware implementation and software systems.
Required qualifications for the position are:

  • documented technical education within electrical engineering, computer technology or similar.
  • very good proficiency in spoken and written English
  • engineering knowledge in FPGA-programming
  • knowledge in programming, including network applications.

Additional qualifications for the position are:

  • advanced level education within engineering.
  • work experience in relevant areas.
  • experience of development of complex systems, including data handling and synchronization.
  • experience of hardware development, including circuit design and PCB manufacturing.
  • experience of sensor systems and remote-controlled platforms.

Consideration will also be given to how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development. 

Further information 
Employment is for an indefinite term with a scope of 100 per cent of full time starting as soon as possible or by agreement. Probationary employment might be applied.
