You will be working on a project on femtosecond laser irradiation of thin films, be involved in initiating new research activities as well as in interacting and coordinating with ongoing efforts concerning nano-scale modeling.
Your primary scientific tasks will be, e.g.:
- Simulation of femtosecond laser pulse induced defect formation, re-crystallization and grain coarsening using MD,
- Extraction of effective material properties from MD simulations
- Simulation model development, e.g., in the spirit of multiscale modeling
- Collaboration with internal and external project partners
- Preparation of scientific publications and presentations
- Participation in national and international conferences and symposia
- Co-supervision of PhD students
Your Profile:
- A completed MSc degree and a subsequent PhD in the field of physics, materials science, theoretical chemistry, mechanical engineering, or a similar field
- Expert knowledge and in-depth practical experience with molecular dynamics (simulation, post-processing) and the related software tools (LAMMPS, OVITO)
- Excellent programming skills (preferably with C++, Python)
- Very good publication record and visibility in the scientific community
- Structured and analytical thinking as well as a systematic, careful, independent, and reliable working method
Desirable additional qualifications:
- Experience in supervising students and doctoral candidates and in managing your own scientific project
- Excellent communication skills and commitment to work as part of a team are mandatory
- Experience with acquisition and administration of third-party funds is a plus

The position is initially for a fixed term of 2 years, with possible long-term prospects. Salary and social benefits will conform to the provisions of the Collective Agreement for the Public Service (TVöD-Bund), pay group 13 - 14, depending on the applicant’s qualifications and the precise nature of the tasks assigned to them.
