PhD student (m/f/d) | Optics and nanophotonics

 The Department of Sustainable and Bio-inspired Materials (Director Prof. Dr. Silvia Vignolini) at the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces in Potsdam, Germany invites applications from outstanding young scientists for the position of PhD student (m/f/d) in Optics and nanophotonics.

We are looking for a highly motivated PhD student in the field of nanomaterials. We invite applications from outstanding young scientists to work in an interdisciplinary project aimed to understand chirality transfer across multiple length-scales in different types of nanomaterials. The position will be focused on numerical modelling to investigate light-matter interaction in bio-inspired materials, in collaboration with Dr Kevin Vynck at the Institute of Light and Matter in Lyon, France.

The candidate should have a degree in Physics or Engineering or closely related fields, with an outstanding profile, a strong background and interests in

• numerical simulations, such as light scattering (T-matrix) and transport (Monte-Carlo), finite-elements (FE) or FDTD, ray tracing optics.

The position will be under the direct supervision of Silvia Vignolini.
