Postdoctoral researcher (f/m/d) | Membrane protein biogenesis

The Max Planck Institute of Biophysics is a leading international research institute that uses biophysical, biochemical and computational methods to investigate the structure, dynamics and function of cellular systems at the molecular scale. It consists of four scientific departments, multiple research groups and scientific core facilities, with about 200 employees from more than 25 countries. It is located at the Campus Riedberg in Frankfurt am Main.

The Research Group of “Membrane Protein Biogenesis” led by Melanie McDowell at the Max Planck Institute of Biophysics invites applications for the position of Postdoctoral researcher (f/m/d) to investigate the endoplasmic reticulum targeting and insertion pathways of eukaryotic membrane proteins using a combination of in situ and in vitro biochemical and structural methods. The successful candidate will isolate ER-derived vesicles from model organisms (Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Chaetomium thermophilum), perform in vitro functional assays and analyse native complexes by cryo-electron tomography. The candidate will join an enthusiastic, collaborative and international team of biophysicists and biochemists ready to tackle exciting problems of immediate relevance to textbook biology.

Your qualifications

We are searching for

  • An outstanding experimentalist with a PhD degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, biophysics or a related field within the life sciences.
  • Experience with cryo-ET.
