Research Software Engineer (m/f/d)

 The Perceiving Systems Department at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems is seeking a software developer (m/f/d) with a scientific background and a diverse skill set to conduct and support researchers in creating the next generation of photorealistic digital human head models.

Your tasks

Within the Perceiving Systems Department, a group of researchers found a new technology to make computer graphics faster and more realistic. Max Planck Innovation funds this with the goal of spinning off a company. Your role will be to develop a research prototype in tandem with leading machine learning scientists and integrate it into a game engine. You will also get experience with real-life industrial-grade machine-learning products.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Generation of photorealistic images/videos
  • Develop software to remove jitter from videos, i.e. to stabilize video using optical flow
  • Create demos of virtual humans that look and move like real humans
  • Integrate neural networks into game engines

Your profile

  • A Master’s degree (or above) in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Have experience with 3D models and rendering
  • Experience with Python
  • Experience with C++ is a plus
  • Experience with PyTorch
  • Organized, independent, and good communication skills in English

Salary and contract will be based on qualifications and previous professional experience according to the Public Service Wage Agreement (TVöD Bund) guidelines. All social benefits of public service apply. The position is initially limited to one year.
