The department of Tissue Dynamics and Regeneration (Dr. Jochen Rink) invites applications for a Student Research Assistant (f/m/d) - image analysis & animal care.

Planarian flatworms possess the fascinating ability to regenerate complete animals even when cut into little pieces. We aim to identify genes contributing to regeneration via a high-throughput loss-of-function screen of all genes in the planarian genome. A central component of the screen is the identification of phenotypes via machine learning/image analysis. We are looking for a talented, motivated, and reliable student (m/f/d) to help with training data annotation and day-to-day screening procedure development.

About the position

As a member of our screening team, you will get to participate in the following:

• Live imaging of planarian flatworms with partially automated set-ups.
• Image sorting/annotation for training the machine learning algorithms.
• Feeding/cleaning experimental animals.
• Additional involvement in other ongoing research projects is possible, subject to your interests and availability.

Your profile

• You are dedicated, reliable, and good at note-keeping.
• You are enrolled in Bachelor or Master studies at a University in Germany in the field of life sciences. 
• You easily communicate in English, both in everyday conversations and in writing. 
• Prior experience with life science laboratory research is a plus.

Recruitment

Payment will be € 12,68 per hour for students with a bachelor's degree and € 12,00 per hour without a bachelor's degree. The monthly working time can be up to 83 hours and is subject to negotiation. Students at any stage of education are encouraged to apply.
