Technical Assistant (m/f/d) | Molecular and cell biology

The Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics in Dresden, Germany, is an institute of the world-renowned Max Planck Society conducting ground-breaking biomedical research at the forefront of science. Currently about 500 employees work at the institute, where half are from abroad, representing 53 nations. The institute has won several prizes for its optimal work conditions and family-friendly environment.

The research group of Dr. Meritxell Huch is looking for a Technical Assistant (m/f/d) (MTA/BTA or equivalent) in molecular and cell biology.

The lab of Meritxell Huch aims to understand the principles governing proliferation and differentiation of adult organs and tissues using both organoid and animal models with the final objective of understanding organogenesis. Dr Huch pioneered the development of organoid models for non-intestinal tissues with seminal papers on stomach, liver and pancreas organoids. The research group investigates the liver as a model of extensive regenerative capacity and the pancreas, which exhibits very little regeneration potential, to unveil the biological processes that control adult tissue homeostasis and repair and their deregulation in disease. Experimental strategy involves use of both animal models and in vitro mouse and human organoid models that recapitulate key aspects of mouse and human liver development, proliferation and regeneration.

The team is highly interdisciplinary, international and collaborative; English is our institute working language. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing experiments, initial analysis, and laboratory organization.

Main responsibilities

  • Cell culture work, including preparation and maintenance of cell lines
  • Cultivation of organoids from liver, pancreas or small intestine tissues
  • Histological analysis, including preparation of tissue sections and initial evaluation of samples by microscopy
  • Perform a variety of assays including quantitative PCR, western blotting, genotyping, protein extraction
  • Assist in troubleshooting procedures if experimental results are unexpected or the quality of specimens is poor
  • Lab organisation, ordering of materials, safety documentation, equipment maintenance

Essential qualifications
