Two (2) Postdoctoral Reseachers in Organic and Supramolecular Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry
, in the Faculty of Mathematics and Science is currently seeking to recruit

TWO (2) POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHERS in Organic and Supramolecular Chemistry.

The positions are fully funded for two years by the European Research Council (ERC Consolidator project ProteoKnot) starting June 1st 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Tasks and responsibilities

The postdoctoral researcher will work in the group of Associate Professor Fabien Cougnon at the NanoScience Center. The group is specialized in the development of new strategies to access entangled molecules, such as molecular knots. Relevant publications can be found on https://cougnonlab.com/. The goal of this particular project is to construct increasingly complex knotted macromolecules with protein-like functions. The postdoctoral researchers will synthesize oligophenylene strands engineered to self-assembly into multi-stranded helices, which will serve as precursors towards multiply-entangled knots and catenanes.

Qualifications we are looking for

Candidates must hold a PhD degree in chemistry (or equivalent) at the beginning of the contract. Previous experience in supramolecular chemistry and/or multi-steps organic synthesis is necessary. Experience in molecular nanotopology, foldamers, or oligophenylene synthesis is particularly relevant.

Precise working methods, team player attitude, and the ability to act independently are prerequisites for Postdoctoral Researchers. The postdoctoral researchers will be expected to actively participate in group meetings, high-level publishing, and undergraduate and graduate students’ supervision. The duties, qualification requirements and language skills of postdoctoral researcher are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations and language skills guidelines. Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken, are required.
