  • Work with applying for external research funding.
  • Collaboration with business and society.
  • Administration linked to the tasks above.

Qualification requirements
Appointment to Assistant Professor requires that the applicant has a PhD, or acquired corresponding research expertise.

Priority should be given to applicants who have completed their degree or acquired the equivalent expertise no more than five years before the last date for applications.

Assessment criteria
For appointment to Assistant Professor, the following shall form the assessment criteria:

  • A good ability to develop and conduct high quality research.
  • Teaching skills.

Additional requirements

  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English.
  • Experience of compressible and reacting flow simulations with OpenFOAM or equivalent software.
  • Documented/demonstrated ability to cooperate with the surrounding community.
  • Documented/demonstrated ability to inform and report on one's research activities.

Other qualifications

  • Demonstrated potential to lead and develop operations.
  • Competence in compressible flow, gas dynamics, computational fluid mechanics, plasma physics and combustion, including mesh generation and visualization.
  • Experience of teaching in Swedish in fluid mechanics and/or heat transfer.
  • Documented ability to publish in highly ranked scientific journals.
  • Experience from research in industry and/or research in projects with large industrial collaboration
  • Experience of postdoctoral research in a research environment other than the university at which the applicant obtained their PhD.

Consideration will also be given to ability to cooperate, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research, education and innovation within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.

Terms of employment
This is a full-time, fixed-term employment of 6 years. The employment is regulated in accordance with Chapter 4 Section 12a§ HEA.

The Department of Energy Sciences conducts research into phenomena, mechanisms, components, processes, and systems with relevance to the energy sector. The research is based on modeling, numerical simulation, and experimental studies. The Division of heat transfer, where the position is located, focuses on single- and multi-phase flows in which thermal processes, such as classical heat transfer and/or exothermic chemical reactions, play a prominent role. The division is growing, and currently consists of around twenty researchers.

The assistant professor will conduct research in the area of numerical simulation of high-speed- and plasma-assisted combustion with application to gas turbines and jet engines, ramjet engines, and rotating detonation engines. This is motivated by the urgent need to reduce the climate impact from aviation, and power and electricity production. This can be accomplished by improving the performance and increasing the fuel flexibility of existing gas turbines and jet engines, as well as developing improved and more environmentally friendly engines and fuels for aviation and power generation. An additional motivation for the research is to increase our capacity for resilience through utilization of domestic raw materials. This research activity is supported by a five-year competence center funded by the Swedish Energy Agency (CESTAP), three four-year EU H2020 projects (MORE&LESS, MYTHOS and CircularFuels), an EDF project (NEUMANN), a VR project, a project funded by the US Air Force Office of Scientific Research, as well as several more applied industrial projects. The research will be carried out in close collaboration with experimental and other research in these projects.
