PhD in Functional Proteomics

The University of Copenhagen is seeking a highly motivated and talented PhD fellow to commence January 1, 2024, in the Deshmukh Group at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research (CBMR), University of Copenhagen.

The PhD fellowship is part of the CBMR International PhD & Postdoc Program.

About Us
The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research’s vision is to strengthen interdisciplinary research that transforms our basic understanding of the mechanisms that underlie cardiometabolic health and disease, and to accelerate this knowledge toward new prevention and treatment strategies. We were established in 2010, and in 2017, we moved into new laboratories and offices in the Maersk Tower.

The Center has around 260 employees who work in an international, highly collaborative research environment across a range of biomedical disciplines. For more information, visit www.cbmr.ku.dk.

Our Research
The Deshmukh Group is engaged in highly interdisciplinary research that combines the field of proteomics, exercise science, nutrition, and cell biology to study the impact of lifestyle on metabolism. The main goal of our research is to investigate how diet and exercise alters intra- and intercellular communication and hence the metabolism. We value teamwork and collaboration, both within our group and with international researchers, to expand our knowledge and develop innovative approaches to study metabolism. Through our collaborative efforts, we strive to improve the health and well-being of individuals worldwide. More information about the group can be found here

Project Description
We are seeking an enthusiastic, passionate researcher to perform a PhD project in functional proteomics. The main objective of the project is to identify and characterize secreted proteins in body fluid samples from healthy and type 2 diabetic individuals at rest and after an exercise intervention. The successful applicant will utilize cutting-edge proteomics workflow, alongside bioinformatics and metabolic assays in in vitro and in vivo model systems. The candidate will work in an interdisciplinary team comprising molecular biologists, bioinformaticians and cell biologists. By working together, we aim to gain better understanding of the complex mechanisms behind protein secretion and how they are influenced by exercise and metabolic disorders.
