Description of the workplace 
The division of Solid State Physics at the department of Physics runs the world-class semiconductor nanofabrication facility Lund Nano Lab (LNL). LNL is part of Myfab – the national infrastructure for micro and nano fabrication. It is a key infrastructure for Nanolund, the Center for Nanoscience at Lund University, which is world-leading in the materials science and applications of nanostructured semiconductors. LNL turns over approx. 45 MSEK annually and consists of circa 1200 m2 laboratory area whereof 600 m2 is designated semiconductor clean room. The lab hosts approximately 80 tools, including those for deposition, growth, etch and patterning of semiconductor materials. There are also a number of specialised instruments for characterisationand metrology. The lab has over 140 active users from academia and industry. The LNL team includes 13 highly qualified scientists, engineers and technicians, including a number of Ph.D’s, who are focused on keeping the facility running, equipment available and providing a service to all users so that they can conduct their research.

Work duties
Lund Nano Lab is now seeking a qualified and experienced Equipment Engineer who will be responsible for safety, monitoring, coordinating service, and maintenance of semiconductor material processing tools, including Metal Organic Vapour Phase Epitaxy (MOVPE), etch, chemical vapour deposition (CVD) and physical vapor deposition (PVD). Another key part of the job will be hands-on involvement in the safety, installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of gas distribution systems for these equipments. You will interface with students, scientists and engineers to provide training and support on equipment and gas related matters, reporting to the Head of LNL.

In this position, you will be responsible for:

  • routine preventive maintenance and calibrations on tools in accordance with equipment manufacturer specifications.
  • installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of gas distribution systems.
  • electrical and mechanical root cause troubleshooting and repairs of all equipment.
  • use test and diagnostic equipment to perform equipment checks, calibrations and characterization.
  • modify equipment to improve overall process performance and equipment availability.
  • work with vendors for technical assistance and support.
  • maintain critical spare parts inventory. Assist in new equipment installations and with start-up and acceptance testing.
  • establish preventive maintenance strategies in collaboration with other staff members.


Qualifications
Required qualifications for the position are:

  • a degree in relevant area, such as mechanical- or electrical engineering, or a similar education.
  • minimum of 10 years of experience of technical equipment maintenance, while maintenance of semiconductor processing equipment is a strong plus.
  • hands-on experience in installation and maintenance of gas distribution and vacuum systems.
  • demonstrated ability to troubleshoot gas and cooling systems to component level.
  • knowledge of basic vacuum principles and basic vacuum components, including vacuum pumps/gauges/valves.
  • proficiency in English including the ability to write technical documentation.
  • excellent communication skills.

Additional qualifications for the position are:

  • knowledge of Swedish regulations in regards to gas installations.
  • experience with compressed gases widely used in the semiconductor industry and knowledge of installation and maintenance of same.
  • extensive knowledge of gas and cooling related equipment, as well as fittings/valves/regulators/MFCs etc.
  • excellent understanding of the safety hazards associated with exchange/installation/storage/usage of process gases.
  • working knowledge of tubing/threads/fittings commonly used in gas and cooling equipment and familiarity with product ranges from most common suppliers.
  • hands-on experience with vacuum systems (high/ultra-high/plasma systems), as well as troubleshooting/ installation/maintenance.
  • experience with Metal Organic Vapour Phase Epitaxy (MOVPE), etch, chemical vapour deposition (CVD) and physical vapor deposition (PVD) systems.
  • experience/training with Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus Equipment.
  • ability to perform basic troubleshooting on electrical/electronic systems e.g. power supplies/control loops/communication systems.
  • ability to operate basic electrical/electronic test Equipment.

Postdoctoral position in Biomedical engineering with a focus on mass spectrometry-based proteomics

Description of the workplace
The postdoctoral position is linked to the Clinical Protein Science & Imaging group at the division of Biomedical Engineering, where the activity is focused on mass spectrometry-based proteomics and drug distribution analysis on human samples and experimental models. The postdoc will be active in a collaboration with a research group at the Department of Experimental Medical Science, Faculty of Medicine, where they generate induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) models to determine pathogenic cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in various neurological disorders. The aim of the research work is to explore the proteomic changes related to Parkinson's disease in patient-specific iPSC-derived brain cells with the support of the recently jointly awarded grant from the Michael J. Fox Foundation. The activities are carried out in our well-equipped laboratories at the Biomedical Center at Lund University.

Subject description
The main focus of the research is the investigation of proteomic alterations in patient-specific iPSC-derived brain cells in different groups of patients with Parkinson's disease. The research work includes development of methods related to sample preparation, data collection and analysis, with particular attention to multi-omic data integration and analysis.

Work duties

The main duties involved in a post-doctoral position is to conduct research. Teaching may also be included, but up to no more than 20% of working hours. The position includes the opportunity for three weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning. The purpose of the position is to develop the independence as a researcher and to create the opportunity of further development.
The research includes planning and performing the necessary experiments, managing mass spectrometers (MS), as well as data analysis, reporting, and scientific writing. Supervision of undergraduate and graduate students and actively searching for external research funding are also included, as well as administrative tasks related to the position.

Qualification requirements
Appointment to a post-doctoral position requires that the applicant has a PhD, or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within the subject of the position. The certificate proving the qualification requirement is met, must be received before the employment decision is made. Priority will be given to candidates who have graduated no more than three years ago before the last day for application. Under special circumstances, the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier.

Additional requirements:

  • Documented experience in biological mass spectrometry and MS-based proteomics.
  • Good knowledge in bioinformatics, such as analysis and interpretation of MS-based proteomic data.
  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English                                   

Assessment criteria

This is a career development position primarily focused on research. The position is intended as an initial step in a career, and the assessment of the applicants will primarily be based on their research qualifications and potential as researchers. Particular emphasis will be placed on research skills within the subject.

For appointments to a post-doctoral position, the following shall form the assessment criteria:

  • Experience from programming e.g. in R, Phyton, or equivalent
  • Experience in mentoring students and supervising Master's and Bachelor's thesis projects
  • Work experience in a cell lab and/or in the field of neurodegenerative diseases

You should be highly motivated to independently pursue the proteomic analysis of human stem cell-based models, including bioinformatic analysis, within an international and interactive research group, as well as support other ongoing projects within the group.

Consideration will also be given to how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.

In the Automation team we work with producing electrical schematics, functional documentation and software integration for all equipment within the Lab. MAX IV focuses on Rockwell PLC’s, EPLAN for electrical drawings and Atvise SCADA for Safety and maintenance application. Experience in any of this specific software will be highly valued.

Accelerator Operator Assistant

Would you like to operate one of the brightest light sources in the world?

As a member of the Operations Group you will work as an operator of the three MAX IV accelerators to provide the required beam conditions for our beamlines and accelerator physicists. This role consists entirely of shift work, with operator coverage needed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

This is a part-time position of 75%, probationary period may apply.

Your tasks will include:

  • Operation of the MAX-IV accelerators according to the agreed weekly plans
  • Maintaining, as far as possible, the nominal beam conditions during delivery periods
  • Documenting issues and actions as they arise
  • Troubleshooting system failures
  • Handover to incoming operators on shift changes
  • Act as the on-site radiation safety officer when required

Qualifications
You have started a Bachelors degree in physics or an engineering discipline and/or have experience in the operation of large, complex facilities. Previous experience in the operation of accelerators in synchrotron facilities is a considerable advantage.

You enjoy programming, and have experience with Python, and/or Matlab.

You perform well as a shift worker, and are happy to work during evenings, nights, as well as during the weekend.

As a person you have strong communications skills and are comfortable solving problems within a team. You consider yourself to be a careful and efficient problem solver, naturally balancing the risks and rewards of various solutions to find the best way forward.

The software and scientific data groups of the technical division provides MAX IV with a wide range of software solutions to support the scientific experiments being performed. We provide laboratory wide software solutions following international standards in synchrotrons, such as data acquisition, control system, web-based user interfaces, distributed hardware control, scanning tools for running experiments and metadata harvesting. An important role is to develop the functionality and maintain the reliability of the control and acquisition system software to meet the continuously evolving research requirements. We work on projects towards FAIR data, providing a storage infrastructure along with analysis tools for researchers to work on their data after their experiments. We also develop and operate services towards operation of the whole facility, such as proposal and scheduling systems, web site, issue tracking, electronic logging, diagnostic data, web and maintenance systems.

MAX IV is looking for a Software Developer who will
be involved in the developments of the software groups of the technical division, covering a variety of systems and their integration into the experimental stations. As an experienced professional you will bridge the understanding of the scientific requirements and state of the art software development. You can thus work with your colleagues to understand the scientific motivations and with the team to implement solutions with their shared knowledge. You also know or can learn about the science of the experiments running in MAX IV. You will be expected to contribute to international collaborations and conferences about our research facility software.

·    Supporting the MAX IV staff in using the MAX IV software framework.
·    Improving the “User eXperience” for troubleshooting and finding simple user-friendly solutions to complex problems.
·    Participating to the team work,  planning and resource estimation as well as improving the group infrastructure. 

To be successful in this role you need to have the following qualifications 
·    A University degree in Computer Science or Physics
·    A professional experience with Python 3 and C++ programming. 
·    An understanding of common Software Architecture: Functional, OOP, Reactive 
·    The ability to work with ease in a Linux operating system environment.

KITS Infrastructure Team
The KITS Infrastructure group is within the technical division and provides MAX IV with a wide range of IT solutions to support the operation of the facility which is dedicated to performing high performance scientific experiments with a world class source of X-ray light. Many of these experiments generate large amounts of data and therefore the IT services include HPC computing, high speed networks, peta-byte storage as well as a range of other IT technologies, including virtual compute farms and scalable computing with various services to support the office, administrative as well as scientific computing activities.
