ASSISTANT PROFESSOR IN ELECTROMAGNETICS (tenure track)

We are searching for a highly potential candidate with comprehensive knowledge and skills in electromagnetic theory with interest in translational research in multidisciplinary applications. The Department supports and develops research in electromagnetics of complex materials as enablers of new applications, recognizing the application potential of both natural and artificial material systems as biological media, geophysical materials, metamaterials, metasurfaces and other complex electromagnetic media.

As an assistant professor you will enrich our department´s expertise in electromagnetic theory and applications by bringing fresh, new research ideas and perspective into our community. Your key application areas of interest may include, but are not limited to electronics, photonics, health technology, energy applications, and materials processing. Further understanding and control of natural complex materials systems such as biological tissue can be considered as application areas for this position. You have potential to develop a strong and original research program and establish collaborations with existing research groups and partners outside academia. Teaching and development of courses related to electromagnetics is an essential part of your responsibilities.

Scientific environment
You will join the Department of Electronics and Nanoengineering in the Aalto University School of Electrical Engineering. The department’s research areas include electromagnetic theory, integrated circuit design, microwave engineering, space science and technology, as well as nanophotonics and micro and nanotechnology. Our researchers in electromagnetics, lead by profs. Tretyakov, Simovski, Sihvola and Nikoskinen work on fundamental aspects of electromagnetic theory, numerical methods, metamaterials, metasurfaces, bianisotropic media, nanophotonics, and their applications. In these fields, our researchers work in close collaboration with many international leading research institutes and companies. The department has excellent computation and measurement facilities. The main research infrastructure offers a wide variety of measurement equipment from RF to THz frequencies.

Asst/Assoc/Full Professor - Computer Architecture for Edge AI

 


The demand for energy efficient computing (TOPS/Watt) will only increase with the advance of big-data and deep learning applications into mobile, embedded devices. Realizing the required computing performance with as little energy consumption requires novel computer architectures that reduce the main power bottleneck (i.e., data movement) while increasing the computational performance of these systems. Are you inspired to have your research achieve this goal for a broad range of applications in a systematic manner? As a newly appointed faculty member, you will be working in the Electronics Systems Group at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). Next to your research quality, your educational skills are very important as you will develop and teach courses at both undergraduate and graduate level in English. You will be involved in supervising Bachelor, Master, PDEng, and PhD candidates.

Electronic Systems Group

The Electronic Systems (ES) group consists of seven full professors, two associate professors, eight assistant professors, several postdocs, approximately 40 PDEng and PhD candidates, and support staff. The ES group is world-renowned for its design automation and embedded systems research. The group aims to provide a scientific basis for design trajectories of electronic systems, ranging from digital circuits to cyber-physical systems. ES research is organized in three sub-programs that cover the engineering, system and circuit perspectives: Model-driven engineering, smart electronic systems, and digital nano-electronics. ES has strong collaborations with industry, research institutes and other universities. Thirteen of its staff members have a second affiliation besides their TU/e-ES affiliation. The group is a multi-cultural team, with staff members of eight different nationalities and students from all over the world.

Job requirements

  • A PhD in Electrical Engineering or, any other relevant program from a leading university.
  • Experience and reputation in a well-defined or, an emerging area of embedded computer architecture

Staff Scientist School of Medicine, Emory University

 


Applicants are sought to fill a Staff Scientist position to work on interdisciplinary projects investigating the molecular mechanisms of infectious diseases and cancer with a focus on novel protein-based therapeutic development in the laboratory of Dr. Eric J. Sundberg, Professor and Chair of the Department of Biochemistry at the Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia (www.biochem.emory.edu).


Working at the intersection of biochemistry, glycobiology and infectious disease research, the Sundberg laboratory focuses on the structural, energetic and functional dissection of molecular mechanisms of infection, immunity and cancer, as well as the development of protein-based therapeutics. We leverage our longstanding expertise in structural biology to define molecular recognition events in order to rationalize the development of novel therapeutics. In addition, we develop new methods for the directed evolution of carbohydrate-active enzymes and glycoproteins.


The successful applicant will lead protein engineering efforts in the Sundberg laboratory. Accordingly, demonstrated capabilities and a publication track record in protein engineering by directed evolution methods, especially using yeast display, are requirements for the position. The ability to work in a collaborative research group is also critically important, and excellent written and oral communication skills are a must. Minimum qualifications include a PhD or equivalent terminal degree OR a Master’s degree and five years of relevant experience.

Student teachers for academic support in English in the subject Design Theory I within the BA programmes in Design Culture and Design Culture and Economics


 Department of Design and Communication offers 2 vacant positions as student teachers focusing on academic support in English from the beginning of September 2021 till the end of the semester in connection with the subject Design Theory in the 3rd semester of the BA programme in Design Culture and the BA programme in Design Culture and Economics.

 
Mainly students with a background in the Design programmes will be considered, and it is an advantage to have passed the course Design Theory I. Furthermore, good knowledge of the English language and experience in writing in English will be advantageous.
 
Student teachers will be responsible for providing students of Design Theory I with academic writing support in English in their portfolio assignments throughout the semester. Specifically, this includes giving one-to-one support to students who have difficulties with English and/or academic writing.
This will be in the form of (1) short meetings to aid students with revising their graded portfolio assignments up to an acceptable academic level, and (2) reading draft portfolio submissions by students and providing them with suggestions for improvements prior to submission and grading.
 
The lessons of the student teachers will be planned in co-operation with the subject teacher and in consult
ation with the head of studies.
 
Each student teacher will have 23 working hours, which will be conducted simultaneously with the teaching. The specific schedule can be arranged with the teacher.
