Project assistant: International Plastics Politics Research

The Department of Political Science announces a job as a project assistant.

Lund University is well-known for its research on the social and political dimension of plastics. Several large research projects run in parallel creating a vibrant multi-disciplinary research environment that span across the entire university.

The employment is related to the STEPS project (www.steps-mistra.se) and concerns the recent global attempt to tackle the issues around plastics. National governments officially started plastic treaty negotiations in December 2022. These negotiations take place under the auspices of the United Nations with the aim to establish a legally binding instrument that addresses issues related to plastics. The second negotiation round will take place in Paris in May-June 2023 and the final in Nairobi in December 2023. 

Tasks
The project assistant will work on mapping the positions of actors and institution that take part in the negotiations by conducting a qualitative content analysis. The project assistant will, together with other researchers, be involved in the examination of power asymmetries, diverging interests, and norm conflicts within the negotiations as an understand of the countries preferred instrument mixes. The outcome of the work will be a report (written in collaboration with other researchers at LU) that provide critical reflections on the negotiations.

Qualifications
The job as a project assistant requires an ability to perform independent, accurate and systematic work, a curious mindset, and a willingness to work with qualitative data. The following qualifications are a requirement for eligibility for the position:

  • Experience of working with qualitative methods.
  • Experience of working with qualitative data analysis software is a merit, but not a requirement.
  • Good ability to express themselves in written and spoken English.
  • At least bachelor's degree in political science or in a related discipline such as sociology, peace and conflict studies, geography, environmental studies. 
  • The ability to work both independently and in a team.

We prefer if the project assistant could be present in Lund for at least bi-weekly meetings.

Job description
We are looking for a lecturer that independently can take responsibilities for course management, teach, in Swedish, in a range of courses at basic and advanced levels. The work includes administrative duties (recruitment, admission, program development and assessment) and student counselling in the study programs of Environmental Science. The lecturer will also work with societal and stakeholder interactions within the study programs. The research activities will enhance aspects of environmental science in current research and collaboration activities that concerns climate adaptation, nature based solutions and sustainable development.

The position entails teaching at basic and advanced levels, to an extent of 50% of full time, study administrative duties 30%, and research 20%. The work assignments of the position, as well as the relative proportions of research and teaching, may change over time.

Eligibility
Eligible for appointment as lecturer are those who have:

  • Completed a second-cycle degree and has other valuable competences in view of the subject Environmental and climate science and the duties that it will involve.
  • Demonstrated teaching experience and skills in Environmental science in higher education and fulfills requirement to have completed at least five weeks of training in teaching and learning in higher education or acquired equivalent knowledge by other means.
  • Very good skills in Swedish and English, both written and spoken, are requirements for the position.

For academic staff at Lund University the general qualification requirements are to be suited to and having the general ability required to complete the duties of the post well.

Basis of assessment
The candidate must:

  • Demonstrate extensive documented experience and skills in teaching Environmental Science and experience of course responsibility at the university level. 
  • Demonstrate documented ability to communicate and co-operate with other teachers and to work in teaching teams. 
  • Demonstrate good teaching and learning skills, which means a good ability to develop and pursue teaching and other educational activities on different levels and using a variety of teaching methods.

It is an advantage if the applicant also has: 

  • Documented experiences in student counseling and recruitment.
  • Demonstrated good ability to work in an interdisciplinary educational environment.
  • Completed a doctoral programme in Environmental Science and shows experience in research in Environment and Climate Science. 
  • Demonstrated experiences from applying environmental science in public organizations or enterprises. 
  • Demonstrated abilities in combining natural and social science perspectives and methods in teaching as well as research.
  • Basic knowledge of study administrative system such as, e.g.  LADOK, Canvas and NYA.

Assistant Professor Accounting and Auditing with focus on Digitalization and AI

 


Within the Department of Accounting and Auditing (Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Groningen, The Netherlands), a full-time position (0.8-1.0 FTE) is vacant for a career track Assistant Professor in Accounting and Auditing, with a focus on the theme Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence. We aim to appoint an engaged and promising scholar who is interested in multidisciplinary and/or interdisciplinary work.

This position is part of an ambitious government investment initiative in the Social Sciences and Humanities (www.sectorplan-ssh.nl), translated within FEB into the thematic interdisciplinary area of Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence, as outlined in the Faculty’s Strategic Plan for 2021-2026.

Department of Accounting and Auditing
The department of Accounting and Auditing is a medium-sized group of around 60 academics coming from a variety of countries and disciplines. The department brings together academics and practitioners active in the field of accounting, auditing, and control. We are active in areas like auditing, corporate governance, corporate social responsibility, financial accounting and reporting, management accounting and control, tax, and corporate law.

We teach accounting, auditing, and control in several bachelor programs as well as in the master programs in Accountancy and Controlling and in Business Administration. We also have a strong footing in executive master programs, like the Executive Master in Accountancy and the Executive Master of Finance and Control. Besides, the department participates in the Research Master program, a challenging 2-year program intended for students aiming at a Ph.D.

Our research is concentrated in the FEB Research Institute (FEBRI). Within FEBRI, we conduct high-quality research and highly value multidisciplinary. Job description
The new Assistant Professor is expected to strengthen the position of the Department of Accounting and Auditing and the theme of Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence. We are looking for candidates with an interest in (interdisciplinary) research related to digitalization and artificial intelligence in the broadest sense, such as the role of the chief digital officer, knowledge and expertise on digitalization and digital innovations in TMTs and the board of directors, IT Governance, the role of artificial intelligence or data analytics in accounting and/or auditing, the role of human-technology interaction in accounting and/or auditing, and the like.

In general, we seek candidates who are committed to excellence in both research and education. You have a proven ability (or potential) to conduct high-quality, original research in areas of interest to the department, and you aim to publish your work in international top journals in the field of economics and business. With your excellent teaching, you will participate in and contribute to the educational programs of the Department of Accounting and Auditing and those on the theme of Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence. Conditions of employment

We offer you in accordance with the Collective Labor Agreement for Dutch Universities:

• a salary depending on qualifications and work experience, starting from a minimum of € 3,974 gross per month (salary scale 11) to a maximum of € 6,181 gross per month (salary scale 12) for a full-time position
• a holiday allowance of 8% of the gross annual income and an 8.3% end-of-the-year allowance, as well as participation in a solid state pension scheme. Non-Dutch applicants may qualify for a tax-free allowance equal to 30% of their taxable salary. A full-time position entitles you to 41 days of annual leave based on full-time employment.

Career track positions at the Faculty of Economics and Business are permanent positions subject to a tenure decision after 18 months. Research time is 50% during the first six years, and promotion is conditional on the pre-specified set of criteria documented for the career track. Afterwards, it is allocated according to regular faculty procedures (comparable to US research schools). The vacancy comprises a full-time position at the level of Assistant Professor, but an 0.8 or 0.9 FTE appointment is possible as well, based on the preferences of the candidate.

Starting date of the position is negotiable but preferably by December 1, 2023 at the latest.

The candidate is encouraged to use creative experimental concepts to understand, master, design, and engineer for instance genetic circuits and/or biosynthetic pathways. We envisage that your research will provide fundamental understanding of the molecular processes of microbial life and will lead to the use of (engineered) microorganisms for biotechnological or biomedical purposes. As full professor you will become head of the GBB research group Molecular Genetics and bring in expertise that complements current research at GBB (e.g. Arnold Driessen, Matthias Heinemann, Marco Fraaije, Ida van der Klei, Sahar El Aidy, Danny Incarnato), the Engineering and Technology Institute Groningen (e.g. Marc van der Maarel, Gert-Jan Euverink) and the Groningen Research Institute for Pharmacy (e.g. Gerrit Poelarends, Dr. Sandy Schmidt).

We are looking for a tenure track Assistant to Associate Professor with outstanding knowledge of and experience in microbial biotechnology and who aims to develop and implement novel approaches to discover, screen and engineer unexplored natural compounds, which have great potential for specific applications. For instance, combinatorial methods can be used to (re)design natural products to also aid natural product diversification and effectiveness and eventually improved production. The newly appointed staff member will be able to connect to ongoing studies in molecular microbiology (Profs. Arnold Driessen, Dirk-Jan Scheffers, and Tessa Quax), microbiomes (Prof. Sahar El Aidy, Dr Frans Bianchi), molecular systems biology (Profs. Matthias Heineman, Andreas Milias), molecular enzymology and biotechnology (Prof. Marco Fraaije and Dr Max Fürst), chemical biology (Profs. Giovanni Maglia), and synthetic biology (Dr Sonja Billerbeck). Furthermore, the work connects to structural-function research (Profs. Assistant Professor (Academic Education Track) position in Marketing

FEB’s Academic Education Track (AET) therefore acknowledges and rewards excellent teaching performance, provides career opportunities for education-focused academic staff, and has the goal to continuously improve and innovate our education.

Staff members in the AET of FEB form a community in which they can share their insights and learnings with regard to education and their other experiences in the education track. Positions in the AET at the Faculty of Economics and Business are temporary positions subject to a tenure decision at the end of the fifth year. The tenure requirements include criteria with respect to education, research, and citizenship and service; with the emphasis on education.

Within the Department of Marketing (Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Groningen, The Netherlands), one full-time position is vacant for an Assistant Professor in the academic education track.

Department
The Department of Marketing is one of the highly regarded and productive marketing groups in Europe. The department is responsible for courses in marketing for students in Bachelor and Master programs – in particular on Marketing Management, and Marketing Analytics & Data Science – at the Faculty of Economics and Business. In addition, the department participates in the Research Master program, a challenging 2-year Master program intended for students aiming at a PhD.

The quality and productivity of the department is evidenced by the very high ratings it consistently obtains in research evaluations. The RUG Customer Insights Center and the Groningen Digital Business Center that are affiliated with the department form a bridge between science and practice, translating into collaboration and data collection opportunities for department members.

The new tenure track Assistant Professor (AET) is expected to strengthen the position of the Department of Marketing, in particular with respect to our educational programs. In general, we seek candidates who are committed to excellence in teaching. With your excellent teaching you will participate in and contribute to the educational programs of the Department of Marketing, with a focus on Marketing Management, but also Marketing Analytics and Data Science. Specific educational tasks will depend on the expertise and experience of the candidate.

During the AET, a 70% (teaching and education management), 20% (research), 10% (development time) division of time allocation is used. Afterwards, time is allocated according to regular faculty procedures (comparable to US research schools).

Qualifications

Hence, to qualify, you…

• have an appealing and inspiring vision on teaching
• are an enthusiastic and effective lecturer with excellent teaching skills, as demonstrated by teaching evaluations
• have experience with individual student supervision, small group teaching (seminars, workshops, interactive teaching formats), and large group lecturing
• have knowledge of modern teaching and assessment methods
• have a University Teaching Qualification or are willing to obtain this qualification
• have PhD degree in Marketing or a related discipline
• are a good scientific researcher, preferably evidenced by one or more publications in international journals
• have organizational qualities and excellent communication skills
• have good interpersonal skills and the ability to successfully work both individually and in a team
• are sufficiently fluent in English (C2).

Conditions of employment

We offer the Assistant Professor in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities:

  • a salary with a minimum of € 3,974 gross per month (salary scale 11). Depending on background and experience the midterm evaluation to Assistant Professor level 1 (salary scale 12) will be after three years. Around five years after appointment the Assistant Professor’s performance is subject to a final assessment procedure to the position of Associate Professor by the Committee for Internal Promotions (CIP). Assistant Professors in the Academic Education Track program receive a budget of 5,000 Euros (in total) to spend on e.g. hiring student assistants, travelling, staying abroad, following trainings and courses on teaching (e.g. case-based teaching, including diversity and inclusion in teaching, using gaming) and attending (educational) conferences
  • a holiday allowance of 8% gross annual income and an 8.3% end-of-the-year allowance

In the current policy, you will get an initial appointment for a period of seven years, on the condition of a positive mid-term evaluation at the end of the third year of employment. The University of Groningen is currently developing a new policy regarding the Academic Education Track. The new proposed policy does not change the timeline and criteria for promotion after five years, but the tenure decision will be taken after 18 months. The vacancy comprises a fulltime position at the level of Assistant Professor, but an 0.8 or 0.9 FTE appointment is possible as well, based on the preferences of the candidate. You will be appointed as Assistant Professor in the Academic Education Track.

Starting date of the position is negotiable, but we foresee that it starts between September 2023 and January 2024
