The ISDI group is among the leading European research groups regarding publications in leading Information Systems journals. The Business IT department is a space for interdisciplinary collaboration between the ISDI group and the Technologies-in-Practice (TIP) group (https://tip.itu.dk/), which focuses on qualitative and critical studies of technology-mediated practices in organizations and everyday life. The TIP group is among Scandinavia's leading research groups at the intersection of IT and society and unites scholars from science and technology studies, anthropology, sociology, Human-Computer Interaction, and Computer-Supported Collaborative Work.

Job Description
The new Associate Professor is expected to contribute to research, teaching, and funds raising in enterprise systems and IT governance. To qualify for this domain, the candidate should have a publication record or evidence of well-received teaching in at least two of the following areas:

  • Design or use of enterprise software such as Enterprise Resource Planning, Supply Chain Management, and Customer Relationship Management systems
  • Enterprise software platforms and ecosystems
  • Design or use of databases in organizational contexts
  • Data and business process modeling
  • Business process analysis and automation
  • Data platforms and data governance
  • Enterprise architecture
  • IT governance and control
  • Adaptive data and analytics governance
  • Regulatory compliance in data management

The new Associate Professor should design and execute academic research related to at least some of these areas. Moreover, the new Associate Professor should conduct excellent research-based teaching in the areas mentioned above. The teaching will be within the bachelor and master programs offered by the Business IT department, wherein most courses are held in English. The position will be based on a permanent contract (tenured position).

Qualification Requirements

  • Publications in internationally renowned outlets such as the IS basket of eight or equivalent internationally renowned outlets from other disciplines relevant for the position (e.g., Government Information Quarterly, Research Policy, Journal of System and Software)
  • A Ph.D. degree
  • The ability to teach content in at least two of the areas mentioned above, as documented by publication records or evidence of well-received teaching in the specific areas

Preference will be given to candidates that demonstrate expertise or achievements in the following areas:

  • The candidate should be able to develop and conduct teaching that is well received by students.
  • A completed teacher development program (adjunktpædagikum) or an equivalent pedagogical qualification
  • The candidate should be able and willing to contribute to our interdisciplinary research and teaching environment, such as by demonstrating familiarity with both qualitative and quantitative methods or by a track record of collaboration with researchers from other fields relevant to the IT University.
  • A record of contributing to the goals of the institutions in which he/she has worked, such as participation in committees, etc. 
  • A record of attracting external research funding 
  • Competencies in supervising Ph.D. students 
  • The ability to read/speak a Scandinavian language or the willingness to learn Danish

Associate professorship(s) in Science and Technology Studies with a focus on climate & digitalisation, and critical data studies

 


The Business IT Department at the IT University of Copenhagen invites applications for two full-time faculty position(s) at the rank of associate professor in (i) climate & digitalisation, and (ii) critical data studies. The proposed starting date is 1 January 2022 or soon thereafter.

The new associate professor(s) will work in the Business IT department within the Technologies in Practice (TiP) research group.

The TiP group focuses on qualitative (ethnographic and digital) and critical studies of technology-mediated practices in organizations and everyday life. It is among Scandinavia's leading research groups at the intersection of IT and society. It unites scholars from science and technology studies, anthropology, sociology, Human-Computer Interaction, and Computer-Supported Collaborative Work. The Business IT department also houses the Information Systems & Digital Innovation (ISDI) research group which conducts qualitative, quantitative, and design-oriented research on digital ecosystems, digital innovation, and digital technology management, focusing on technologies such as blockchain and Artificial Intelligence.

The IT University is looking to strengthen its research and teaching within two core areas (i) climate & digitalisation and the digital anthropocene and (ii) critical data studies and feminist approaches to science and technology. Candidates should have a well-established pipeline of research in relation to anthropological approaches to climate change, sustainability and green energy, or interdisciplinary research on computational, situated, and reflexive methods. The candidates are expected to conduct research and research-based teaching in two or more of the following areas:  

  • STS approaches to climate and digitalization: Preference is given to applicants with a focus on ethnographic approaches to energy and data infrastructures, and the digital anthropocene.
  • Anthropological approaches to climate change with a focus on green energy transitions
  • Sustainable digitalization, with a focus on the environmental impacts of digitalization, and the social sustainability of digital infrastructures
  • Qualitative inquiry with digital/computational methods
  • Critical data studies: Preference is given to applicants with a focus on reflexive and/or situated approaches to data and datafication.
  • Feminist methods and approaches to science and technology, with a focus on embodiment, new materialisms and feminist technoscience

The new associate professor(s) will conduct interdisciplinary research with a combination of qualitative (ethnographic and digital) methods focusing onthe STS of climate & digitalisation or critical, feminist approaches to data, science, and technology. Moreover, the new associate professor(s) should conduct excellent research-based teaching in the areas mentioned above. The teaching will be within the bachelor and master programs offered by the Business IT department, wherein most courses are held in English.   • Research publications at a high international level in well-respected peer reviewed venues 
  • Ability to attract external research funding
  • Competences in developing and conducting undergraduate and/or graduate teaching that is well received by students 
  • Contribution to the goals of institutions in which they have worked, for example participation in committees, etc.  
  • Experience with supervision of students at undergraduate and/or graduate level, and curriculum development
  • Ability and willingness to supervise PhD students 
  • Ability to read/speak a Scandinavian language or the willingness to learn Danish

Postdoc for the Moving Data Moving People project

 


A full-time postdoc position in the Technologies in Practice research group, Business IT Department is open for appointment from November 1st 2021, or soon thereafter. The position is for 30 months. The position is one of two positions available on the Moving Data, Moving People research project funded by the Danish Independent Research Fund (2020-2025). The Moving Data Moving People project
The project follows the narratives about and implementation of the Social Credit System in China during the project period. As social anthropologists and STS scholars, we are interested in the lived experiences accompanying the SCS, particularly for China’s mobile population. The project asks how digital technologies are envisaged as a means by which trusting relationships will be negotiated.  We will examine questions of infrastructural integration, and how data scores and identities move with people who are on the move. We will use a range of approaches including ethnographic fieldwork, digital ethnography as well as document analysis.
The project is coordinated from ITU by Rachel Douglas-Jones and from Aalborg University by Jesper Willaing Zeuthen and Ane Bislev. For more information, please see the project 

Job description
The two postdocs will be key contributors to our program of research into the Social Credit System in China, carrying out independent research and working closely with the project team. This research is expected to advance anthropological studies of state digitalization projects worldwide, develop a culturally specific understanding of the notion of digitalized trust, and renew the literature on internal migration in China. The postdoctoral research projects will constitute a significant component of the overall project, and while the overall emphases of the research are determined by the project, the postdocs will have considerable freedom through the subprojects in shaping how the research objectives are realized. In addition to conducting fieldwork, each postdoc is expected contribute to the shared project, publish independently, as well as together with other project team members, present research papers at international workshops and conferences, contribute to popular dissemination of the research results, and contribute to project organization and administration through workshop and conference coordination. 

The postdoc position of ITU
At ITU, the postdoc will join the active Technologies in Practice research group, one of Scandinavia’s largest interdisciplinary STS environments looking at the intersection of society and IT. They will be responsible for designing an ethnographic study that attends to the making of the SCS as a sociotechnical phenomenon, following technologies, their makers, environments, and consequences of use for populations on the move. The successful candidate will be interested in and aware of questions of trust and trustworthiness become turned into technological questions, and the social life of SCS technologies in use. 

Qualification requirements 
Essential:

  • A PhD in a relevant field (e.g., social anthropology, China Studies, geography, science and technology studies). Candidates who have submitted their doctoral dissertations for evaluation before the application deadline are also eligible to apply
  • Fieldwork experience from China  
  • Native or near native skills in both Chinese and English 
  • Demonstrable capacity for independent research design and implementation  
  • Willingness to relocate to Denmark (when conditions allow)
  • Willingness to spend extended periods of time in the field. The position includes 6 – 9 months fieldwork in China in total. 

Desirable: 

  • Experience of collaborative projects and team work, including joint writing
  • Excellent organizational skills and experience in organising workshops and events
  • Previous engagement with some of the relevant themes from the project (e.g., migration, SCS, digitalization, see project website for more relevant themes) 
  • Previous engagement with relevant theory and methods
  • Relevant networks in China for facilitating fieldwork

Associate Professor in Design Research and Interaction Design

 


The Digital Design Department at the IT University of Copenhagen invites applications for a full-time faculty position at the rank of Associate Professor. The proposed starting date is 15 January 2022.

Job description 
We look to hire a candidate within Design Research and Interaction Design. The candidate should have strong theoretical, methodological and design­-oriented qualifications in the core of interaction design with interests in the design, construction, and use of interactive artifacts. A good candidate is expected to conduct research contributing to several of the following areas: 

  • Design as a matter of concern, how design can critique, speculate on, and otherwise engage with societal issues
  • How design can engage in prototyping alternative futures 
  • How design can support and sustain new communities of practice 
  • How design can help build publics of care, for instance, around issues in healthcare, elderly care or environmental care
  • Material interaction and how the scope of materials used in interaction design can be broadened

The candidate should also be qualified in sketching and prototyping interactive artifacts through a variety of digital materials from Arduino to Web­-oriented tools. Generally, programming skills within Processing, JavaScript, Python, including openFrameworks or UX wireframing tools will be an advantage. 
 
The candidate is expected to lead and further develop the master specialization in interaction design which consists of two consecutive courses as part of the MSc in Digital Design and Interactive Technologies. Postdoctoral Fellow in Bioenergy Systems Analysis

 


The Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the University of British Columbia (UBC) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow (PDF) position supervised by Professors Tony Bi, Naoko Ellis and Kevin Smith. The PDF position will be located at UBC’s Vancouver campus.

We are seeking a PDF to (1) perform a systems analysis to quantify the environmental, economic and social benefits of the biomass-to-syngas and -biomethane process, and (2) to carry out a comprehensive analysis of government policy and incentive/subsidy programs at regional, natural and global scales to understand the impacts and implications of policy changes on the deployment of syngas, biogas and renewable natural gas technologies.

Qualifications of applicant:

  • Have completed a relevant Ph.D. (e.g., in chemical engineering, catalysis) within the last 3 years.
  • Be highly motivated, organized, a good communicator (written and verbal).
  • Thrive in a team environment (in a large biomass energy program).
  • Have a strong desire to conduct process analysis evaluation in close collaboration with industry.
  • Expertise in life cycle analysis, process integration and integrated impact assessments, and policy analysis
  • Experience with clean energy and bioenergy research, development and applications

Responsibilities:

  • Perform environmental and techno-economic analyses of (i): the biomass-to-syngas process in which the syngas is used to fire pulp mill lime kilns and (ii) the biomass-to-RNG technology, using life cycle analysis and other tools.
  • Evaluate the impacts of policy changes on the deployment of the syngas to fire lime kilns technology and biomass to RNG production technologies in BC and Canada.
  • From time to time, assist in the experimental tests of pilot fluidized bed biomass gasification/pyrolysis system
  • Deliver clear and concise written and oral presentation of analysis, and internal/external reports.
  • Communicate with stakeholders in industries to update progress, receive guidance on new assignments and independently complete recurring assignments.
  • Prepare manuscripts for publications and present their work at national/international conferences.

Duration & Salary:

This full-time PDF position has an initial 1-year appointment (as per UBC policy for PDFs), with the potential for renewal.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications.

Clinical Research Associate, HRB Clinical Research Facility, NUI Galway (NUIG RES 137-21)

 


Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a full time fixed-term position as a Clinical Research Associate at the HRB Clinical Research Facility at the National University of Ireland, Galway. The position is available immediately to 31st December 2022, with potential to extend subject to project success and further funding acquisition.

The HRB Clinical Research Facility, Galway’s (CRFG) remit is to contribute to the development, coordination and service delivery of clinical research in Ireland and the support of emerging academic investigators. Multidisciplinary teams work in a coordinated fashion to improve our understanding of a variety of diseases and to develop new strategies to help tackle these challenges. The Centre provides patients with the latest advances in areas such as psychiatry, cancer, obstetrics and gynaecology, diabetes, inflammatory diseases, critical illness, cystic fibrosis and cardiovascular disease amongst others. We provide supporting services in quality and regulatory oversight, data management, study design and roles associated with the legal sponsorship of regulated clinical trials.

Job Description:

The successful candidate will be part of a multi-disciplinary team engaged with researchers and clinicians to support clinical research activities.

The purpose of this role is to verify that the rights and well-being of human subjects are protected and that the reported trial data are accurate, complete, and verifiable from source documents. The CRA will be working within a highly qualified team to identify, select, initiate and close-out investigational sites for clinical studies in the HRB Clinical Research Facility Galway (CRFG)). They will make sure that the conduct of the trial is in compliance with the currently approved protocol/amendment(s), ensuring adherence to applicable regulations, standards and the principles of International Conference on Harmonisation, Good Clinical Practice (ICH-GCP).

Duties:

  • Coordinate all necessary activities required for setting up and monitoring a study, completing accurate study status reports and maintaining study documentation.
  • Perform study procedures as required by the protocol and other study duties as delegated to them.
  • Verifying that source data/documents and other trial records are accurate, complete, and are maintained according to GCP principles.
  • Administer protocol, and other study related training, and establish regular lines of communication to manage ongoing project expectations and issues.
  • Evaluate the quality and integrity of study site practices relative to the protocol, applicable regulations. Escalate quality issues to the Quality and Regulatory Manager.
  • Manage the progress of assigned studies by tracking regulatory submissions and approvals, study recruitment, enrollment, case report form (CRF) completion and submission, and data query generation and resolution.
  • Create and maintain appropriate documentation regarding site management, monitoring visit findings and other required study documentation.
  • Assist the team with tasks, provide back-up to the operations team, assist in generation of status reports, providing project metrics, drafting project instructions/guidelines and assist in implementation of new processes.
  • Liaise with different functional team members, e.g. project management, pharmacovigilance, data management, health care professionals e.g. investigators, site coordinators and designees to address project related issues.
  • Undertake periodic internal quality assurance audits as part of the multidisciplinary team
  • Facilitate monitoring visits by external audits by Regulatory Bodies and/or sponsoring Pharmaceutical Companies
  • Maintain the storage of patient records in accordance with institutional policy
  • Compiling reports and updates on clinical research trial activity
  • Perform other duties as assigned by other members of the CRFG

Qualifications/Skills required:

Essential Requirements:

  • A post graduate qualification in a clinical or life sciences related subject or equivalent
  • Have at least four years’ experience in clinical research activities.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Good Clinical Practice as outlined per ICH GCP E6 (R2) and ISO14155.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills to ensure timeline for key project milestones are adhered to.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication/presentation skills.

Desirable Requirements:

  • Experience in the field of clinical or translational research and/or other academic studies
  • Proven leadership and management skills

Salary: €38,632.00 to €42,200.00 per annum pro rata for shorter and/or part-time contracts (public sector pay policy rules pertaining to new entrants will apply).
