The Opportunity

The Monash Centre for Financial Studies (MCFS) is an essential vehicle for the Monash Business School in undertaking practitioner-relevant research and promoting thought leadership in the financial sector. Our engagement activities facilitate the two-way transfer of knowledge and expertise between academia and practice.

The Role

MCFS seeks to appoint early career researchers interested in pursuing the Centre’s research agenda. The role requires participation in the Centre’s engagement activities, including ongoing interaction with industry and government stakeholders.

The Centre’s research agenda for the next three years has a particular focus on issues relevant to the asset management industry, including pensions and retirement. Researchers at the Centre have the opportunity to pursue interdisciplinary agendas within the Business School and across the wider Monash academic community.

About You

To thrive in this appealing role, you will have a PhD in Economics, Finance or an adjacent relevant discipline and have an in-depth understanding of, and interest in financial markets and the asset management industry. We would particularly encourage candidates who have research experience in investment strategy, empirical asset pricing and the macroeconomics of financial markets.

The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has become available for a Research Fellow to join the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Department in the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing, and Health Sciences on a 2-year and 2-months fixed-term basis. In this role, you will be reporting directly to Dr Fasseli Coulibaly and will be asked to provide a range of high-level research services and further develop your research expertise in cryo-electron microscopy through the pursuit of defined projects relevant to the field of structural and molecular virology.

This can include:

• Proactively undertake a range of research, under limited supervision, and contribute to the production of conference and seminar papers and publications from that research

• Occasionally contribute to the teaching team in relation to their research projects 

• Actively coordinating experimental design and operating advanced laboratory and technical equipment or conducting advanced research procedures 

• Attending meetings associated with research or work of the organisational unit to which the research is connected 

• Providing accurate and timely advice to junior lab members and/or postgraduate research projects within the field of research

This position is suited to a highly motivated individual who holds a doctoral qualification in biochemistry or virology. Additionally, the successful candidate will ideally have highly developed computer literacy, demonstrate knowledge and experience in molecular biology and biochemistry including recombinant protein production, purification, and characterisation by biophysical approaches. A demonstrated experience in cryo-electron microscopy is essential. They should quickly adapt to and learn new methodologies.

The Opportunity

• Foster and promote learning environments that employ appropriate technology to deliver flexible, accessible, and student-centred learning
• Contribute to the design of assessment tasks and regimes for Monash Online Education units and undertake the design of assessment as required
• Collaborate with other staff in the design and development of curriculum, case studies, and other learning materials, including but not limited to the content of Monash Online Education

Academic Fellow in Chinese Studies

 

The Department of Chinese Studies within the School of Languages and Cultures is seeking to appoint an Academic Fellow (with a workload allocation of 70% teaching, 20% research and 10% administration) at Level A in the field of Chinese studies.

This role is a great opportunity for an early career teacher and scholar with a strong profile in Modern Chinese language teaching, curriculum design and research in Chinese Studies.

As the successful applicant you will:

• teach and coordinate current undergraduate language (beginning through to advanced) units in Chinese studies
• develop the language curriculum, especially online material for units of study
• participate in teaching collaboration including team-teaching of undergraduate units
• publish your research in well-regarded and peer-reviewed venues
• contribute to academic administration
• contribute to the supervision and assessment of honours and postgraduate research students in Chinese Studies.

There is also an opportunity to make an active contribution to interdisciplinary teaching by developing elective units for inclusion in one of the following areas: Chinese Studies, Asian Studies, and Translation studies (areas of focus would reflect the applicants’ expertise, highlighting the close link between interdisciplinary teaching and research encouraged within the School).

About you

We are looking for an Academic Fellow in Chinese Studies who possesses:

• a completed PhD in a relevant field of Chinese Studies within the preceding five years (since 2017)
• native or near native competency in Chinese and English
• demonstrated experience in teaching Modern Chinese language to speakers of other languages from beginning to advanced levels 
• demonstrated experience in and commitment to innovative teaching, curriculum development and assessment methods
• demonstrated experience with e-Learning platforms
• excellent problem-solving, time management, and interpersonal skills
• demonstrated ability to develop and maintain an active research program
• evidence of capacity to work flexibly and collaboratively in a team environment
• the ability to assume academic roles in administration and planning in the Department and School.

Desirable is your:

• a strong record of peer-reviewed publications relative to opportunity
• experience of collaborative teaching and research 
• demonstrated academic administrative skills
• a clear understanding of the importance of student retention
• ability to design and teach Chinese culture units.
• ability to supervise students at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

To be eligible you must:

• have Fixed Term and/or Casual employment experience totaling at least 12 months in one or more Australian universities over the preceding five years; and
• have been awarded a PhD in a relevant field (unless otherwise specified); and
• not held a Continuing Academic appointment in a university within the previous five years.

Senior Lecturer in Clinical Epidemiology

 

The Sydney School of Public Health is one of seven schools within the University of Sydney’s Faculty of Medicine and Health. It consists of a network of individuals, research groups and centres that offer a wide range of educational and research opportunities in a variety of public health associated areas. We are seeking a Senior Lecturer in Clinical Epidemiology (Level C) academic who is passionate and knowledgeable about clinical epidemiology and whose teaching and research in clinical epidemiology is expanding knowledge in this field. Reporting to the Director, Master of Clinical Epidemiology Program Professor of Public Health and Pain Medicine Professor Fiona Blyth  you will be is expected to be a highly effective team player ready to contribute to the Clinical Epidemiology group and to the broader School and Faculty strategic goals.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

• deliver high quality teaching and research commensurate with academic level

• plan, develop, coordinate, and deliver high quality teaching in the University of Sydney’s Clinical Epidemiology Program

• engage effectively and efficiently with students from clinical backgrounds

• develop programs and learning resources for student engagement and evaluate innovative practices in teaching and learning with a view to improving educational experiences and outcomes, and meeting the University’s expectations and standards for education

• participate in research in collaboration with other researchers and also groups within the School of Public Health

• develop a specific stream of research relevant to clinical epidemiology and pursue appropriate research funding

• contribute as a member of the Clinical Epidemiology team and to other School of Public Health activities.
