DTU invites applications for an assistant/associate professorship in Design and Innovation within the Responsible Innovation and Design division at DTU Management. The division is a key player in DTU’s strategic aim to foster ‘technology for people’, i.e. to put human needs and aspirations at the centre of technological development and innovation. It is focused on the processes through which technologies are developed and implemented in a socially sustainable and responsible manner. The division is in the process of establishment and our new assistant/associate professor will be part of shaping the future trajectory of research and teaching.   

Responsibilities
As part of the group, it will be your responsibility to conduct research, supervision and teaching with relevance to the general theme of responsible innovation and design. The division is working across a number of technological domains and we aim to become a leading research environment for the study of responsible innovation and design. You will be expected to develop a research portfolio, which aligns with this.

You will be engaged in high-end publications, grant procurement and experimental outreach in collaboration with other team members. The division collaborates across DTU’s departments, and we are eager to extend and deepen these collaborations. We contribute to outreach and public debate and expect you to be actively engaged in research communication to relevant stakeholders and wider publics. Qualifications
You must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) within Design Research, Science and Technology Studies, Co-design, Innovation Studies or similar. If you are applying for the associate professor position, you should also have academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding an assistant professorship and documented didactic/pedagogic training. You should have experience with research and teaching relevant to the issue of innovation and design.

Your application must demonstrate an ability to conduct excellent research and publish in top journals. It is an advantage if you have successfully applied for competitive funding and if you can demonstrate interdisciplinary experience with research and teaching. You must describe a compelling future research agenda in your research statement: Why is your future research important and how will you achieve impact in your research field and beyond. In addition, you should possess the following competences:

  • Excellent communication skills and a focus on process as well as outcome

About the research group

Department of Medical radiation physics, Malmö have interdisciplinary research projects related to radiation physics for both diagnostic and therapeutic applications. Professor Lars E. Olsson is heading the department. He also leads the projects about MRI in radiotherapy at Skånes Onkologiska klinik in Lund, which is a centre for research on MRI in radiotherapy. Most of the work will be performed at the MR-scanner at Radiation Oncology, and the place of employment will be Lund. We are now looking for a Postdoctoral researcher in Medical radiation physics. The employment is a full-time, fixed-term position, limited to 2 years and 6 months. Preliminary starting date is 1st of June 2022 or according to agreement.

Work duties

Employment as a Postdoctoral researcher is a fixed-term career-development position to give an early opportunity to develop your independence as a researcher and create the opportunity for further development.

One duty will be to develop an MRI-methods which enable generation of synthetic CT images with artificial intelligence from MR images of patients with metallic hip implant using GE MR-scanner 3.0 T. The project includes optimization of MR-protocol, modification/programming of pulse sequences for reduction of image artifacts from the implants. One other major duty will be development of functional MRI-methods for tumour characterization. The research will be designed as studies to be published in peer-reviewed papers. The duties might include supervision of students at different levels, teaching and projects to develop the activities of the research group. Other tasks may also occur.

Qualifications and basis for assessment

Appointment to a post-doctoral position requires that the applicant has a PhD, or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within the subject of the position. Certificate that the qualifications requirements are fulfilled must have been received at the latest when the employment decision is made. The applicant who has completed the degree no more than three years before the last day for application is primarily eligible. Under special circumstances, the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier.. These circumstances refer to leave due to illness, parental leave, clinical work, positions of trust within trade union organizations or other similar circumstances.

At Lund University, employment as a postdoctoral researcher provides opportunities for scientific and pedagogical merit. There is mainly room for merit in research, but also for certain higher education pedagogical training. Teaching may be included in the tasks. For the employment as a postdoctoral research, scientific ability will primarily be taken into account.

The following are also required for the position:

  • PhD degree in medical radiation physics or another relevant field
  • Very good knowledge in MRI-physics

We are looking for at least 2 postdoc researchers with excellent research skills and a strong wish to contribute to the Faculty of Social Sciences’s initiative for social resilience research.

Duties

The position involves individual research (80%) and teaching (20%). The successful candidates shall contribute to the faculty’s inter-disciplinary initiative for social resilience research by actively organizing and participating in seminars and other activities.

Qualifications and assessment

To be appointed as a postdoc requires a PhD in any of the following research subjects offered at the Faculty of Social Sciences: Communication and Media Studies, Gender Studies, Human Ecology, Human or Economic Geography, Political Science, Psychology, Service Studies, Social Anthropology, Social Work, Sociology, Sociology of Law, or Sustainability Science. The PhD is to have been obtained within the past three (3) years at the time of the application deadline (exceptions can be made only under special circumstances). The PhD requirement must be fulfilled at the time of hiring.

The applicant should indicate a preferred host-department in the Faculty of Social Sciences.

The basis for assessment is the ability to develop and conduct high quality research, as well as teaching skills.

Research expertise is primarily considered. The applicant must be able to demonstrate research expertise through the quality of their doctoral thesis and other publications. The applicant is to conduct research that addresses social resilience and that clearly relates to the research at the preferred host-department.

A research plan (maximum 4 pages) should be submitted with the application. The research plan should define a research topic that deals with social resilience, paying particular attention to research design and methods development. The concept of social resilience can be broadly understood as the capability of communities or societies to withstand, handle and re-emerge from episodic or longer-term instability brought on by social, political, ecological or economic transformations.  The research plan should detail how the concept of social resilience will be applied in the research that the applicant intends to pursue, how the proposed project advances research design and methods development, and how it relates to the research at the preferred host-department.

The applications are assessed with regard to the following criteria: the quality of the applicant’s research output, and its link to the department’s research profile; the relevance and strength of the research plan in relation to the concept of social resilience , other qualifications proving the applicant’s research skills; teaching expertise within the faculty’s educational profile.

Educational Sciences at Lund University

The Department of Educational Sciences was established in 2011 within the Joint Faculties of Humanities and Theology. Its responsibilities include the secondary school subject teacher training programme (both cohesive and supplementary teacher education, KPU) and the graduate school in educational sciences at Lund University. Since 2016, the Department also comprises the Division for Higher Education Development (AHU). AHU has a university-wide remit to conduct educational development work through training in teaching and learning in higher education for teaching staff and research supervisors, development projects in collaboration with various parts of the University, and research.

The department’s research activities cover the history of education, the sociology of schools, school and education research, the teaching profession, subject didactics and research in higher education. Higher education as a research field is multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary in nature and relationships and interactions between the micro, meso and macro levels as well as change processes are of particular interest. AHU’s research covers academic teaching and educational expertise, discourses on academic teaching staff and higher education, organisational development in higher education, educational leadership and the conditions for learning and supervision in research studies. Within the latter two subjects, AHU is a national leader and internationally recognised. At present, three of the department’s twelve doctoral students are working in the field of higher education and the staff at AHU also supervises doctoral students admitted to other higher education institutions.

Duties

The position includes conducting research, leading research collaborations both within the department and with external researchers, nationally and internationally, developing research applications individually and on behalf of the department, actively participating in the department’s joint research activities and supervising doctoral students. Furthermore, the holder of the position is to contribute to AHU’s training in teaching and learning in higher education and to teaching in the first, second and third cycles as well as to take part in educational development work. Administrative duties are also included in the position and the applicant should be prepared to take on academic leadership assignments as necessary.

Qualifications and assessment

A person who has demonstrated both research and teaching expertise shall be qualified for employment as a professor. The assessment criteria for appointment as a professor shall be the degree of the expertise required as a qualification for employment.

The successful candidate for the professorship should be considered to be among the leaders in the field of research and to have made important contributions to national and international research. As higher education is a broad and multidisciplinary field, the applicant should have good theoretical and methodological breadth, as well as experience from studies in different educational and subject contexts within higher education.

The position has a requirement of at least ten weeks’ training in teaching and learning in higher education in accordance with the recommendations of the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institutions (SUHF) or that corresponding knowledge has been obtained in some other way.

The applicant is to be proficient in Swedish and English. If Swedish language skills are lacking on taking up the position, the professor is to have acquired Swedish language skills within two years to an extent that enables teaching in Swedish and participation in drafting and decision-making bodies within the university system.

Educational Sciences at Lund University
