Tax law

Subject description

Tax Law concerns legislations and other norms that regulates the public sectors taxation of mainly individuals and private legal entities. The subject includes tax rules for income taxation, VAT and other indirect taxes as well as rules for tax procedures. Also rules for social contributions and payroll taxes are attributed to Tax Law. The subject is mainly limited to national Swedish Law which due to increasing internationalization includes Tax Treaty Law and EU Law.

Work duties

The post as associate senior lecturer is a career development position and is to offer opportunities for gaining research and teaching qualifications. The position shall first and foremost provide scope for developing research qualifications, and the primary duty is to conduct high quality research. The research must result in national and international publications, and the associate senior lecturer must also actively apply for external funding. 

Additional duties include teaching in the faculty’s undergraduate, Master’s and PhD programmes, as well as in distance learning and contract education. The successful candidate will have special responsibility for teaching within the law program´s fourth semester, in advanced course in tax law, as well as in distance learning and contract education. 

The tasks include a specific responsibility for research and teaching in primarily Swedish, but also European and international tax law.

Furthermore, he or she is to maintain and further develop a stimulating research and study environment through teaching, supervision and collaboration with teaching staff, researchers, doctoral students, students and external contacts, and to contribute to the faculty’s other activities. 

The researchers and teachers at the Faculty are expected to contribute to a dynamic research environment as well as to other Faculty activities, and to perform work primarily in the workplace provided by the Faculty.

The scope of the position shall also provide an opportunity for training in teaching and learning in higher education corresponding to at least five weeks.

Qualifications

A person qualified for appointment as an associate senior lecturer is a person who has been awarded a PhD in legal science or has the corresponding research expertise. Primary consideration should be given to a person who has been awarded a PhD or achieved the equivalent expertise within five years of the deadline for application for employment as an associate senior lecturer. However, a person who has been awarded a PhD or achieved the equivalent expertise at an earlier date may also be considered if there are exceptional circumstances. Exceptional circumstances are sick leave, parental leave or other similar circumstances.

For an associate senior lecturer, the general qualification requirements concern being suitable for and having the ability in general that is needed to satisfactorily carry out the duties of the appointment in question.

Assessment criteria 

For appointments to associate senior lecturer, the following shall form the assessment criteria:

  • A good ability to develop and carry out high quality research, and teaching skill. For appointments to associate senior lecturer, the focus of the assessment shall be on both research and teaching skills. The focus of the assessment shall be on research skills

Specific emphasis will be placed on subject knowledge on primarily Swedish, but also European and international tax law.

Emphasis will also be placed on:

  • A Swedish, Nordic or European research approach
  • Documented ability to apply for external funding
  • Documented international research and teaching experience, for example in the form of publications and conference presentations 

Terms

The position is a fixed term (4 years) full time post. The term is regulated in the Higher Ordinance Ac (HF), chapter 4, Section 12 a.

Promotion to senior lecturer

An associate senior lecturer’s work and qualifications should be evaluated mid-way through the period of employment. The employee shall receive instructions on the specific areas that need to be developed in order to be promoted to senior lecturer employed for an indefinite term.

An associate senior lecturer shall on application be promoted to senior lecturer employed for an indefinite term if he or she has the required qualifications and is deemed to be suitable with reference to the qualification requirements and assessment criteria as stated below. An associate senior lecturer can only apply for promotion once.

The application is to be submitted to the Faculty of law at the latest after 3 years and 6 months of actual service. 

Qualification requirements for senior lecturers 

Those qualified for appointment as a senior lecturer are a person who has demonstrated teaching expertise, and been awarded a PhD or has the corresponding research competence or some other professional expertise that is of value in view of the subject matter of the post and the duties that it will involve.

The assessment criteria for appointment as a senior lecturer shall be the degree of the expertise required as a qualification for employment.

To be qualified for employment as a senior lecturer according to Lund University Appointment Rules, an individual shall have completed at least five weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning or acquired equivalent knowledge by other means, unless there are valid reasons. If there are valid reasons, an appointment can still be made. 

Assessment criteria for senior lecturer 

For appointments to senior lecturer, the following shall form the assessment criteria:

  • The overall assessment criteria is to demonstrate strong development during the appointment as an associate senior lecturer regarding research expertise, and a development regarding teaching expertise. The assessment of the candidate’s development during the appointment as associate senior lecturer is to take into account the research plan and timetable submitted by the candidate with the application for the post as associate senior lecturer
  • A good national and international standing as a researcher or artistic practitioner/researcher. The requirement for international experience shall be assessed with consideration to the character and traditions of the subject
  • Good teaching ability, including a good ability to conduct, develop and lead educational activities on different levels and using a variety of teaching methods
  • An ability to supervise doctoral students to achieve a PhD
  • An ability to engage with wider society and communicate his or her activities
  • A good general ability to lead and develop activities, such as experience of administrative and leadership assignments
  • The ability to teach in Swedish or another Scandinavian language on the Master of Laws programme is a requirement along with the ability to teach in English

Emphasis will also be placed on:

  • Documented ability to formulate research applications for external funding
  • Documented international research and teaching experience, for example in the form of publications, research and teaching stays abroad, research collaborations and conference presentations
  • Broad subject expertise

Doctoral student in applied Physics: X-ray imaging instrumentation

The Division of Synchrotron Radiation Research (http://www.sljus.lu.se) is a part of the Department of Physics and has more than 40 employees. The focus of the research is on experimental studies of electronic, structural, and chemical properties of materials. The Division is developing a new activity focussing on magnetic properties. At the Division we use and develop a wide range of large facility- and lab-based techniques. We are additionally engaged in the development of the MAX IV Laboratory in the fields of beamlines, experimental stations, techniques for Synchrotron radiation and the accelerator systems. MAX IV (http://www.maxiv.lu.se/) is a national large-scale research laboratory hosted by Lund University and situated within biking distance from the Department of Physics. It provides scientists from Sweden and the rest of the world with the most brilliant Synchrotron radiation source and instrumentation for research in areas such as materials science, structural biology, chemistry and nanotechnology.

Work duties

X-rays have a unique ability to investigate samples in their natural state, such as cells, proteins in solution or electronic devices potentially at resolutions up to the atomic level. The advent of diffraction-limited storage rings (MAX IV) and X-ray free-electron lasers (European XFEL) have opened a whole new spectrum of applications due to their unprecedented brilliance. This project aims to develop a novel X-ray imaging method, christened X-ray multi-projection imaging, capable of filming processes in 3D, with temporal resolution several orders of magnitude faster than up-to-date 3D X-ray imaging techniques. In particular, the candidate will work on the development of such technique and its application to the study of cellulose fibers, a renewable biomaterial, which can replace fossil-based materials. The developed instrument will be commissioned at two of the brightest sources in the world: MAX IV and the European XFEL.

The project is experimental with a computational component. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to:

  • Gain understanding of x-ray imaging instrumentation, from X-ray optics to detection components
  • Participate in developing and designing a novel X-ray imaging technique that exploits the unique capabilities of MAX IV and the European XFEL.
  • Gain hands-on experience on operations and instrument integration techniques at large scale facilities such as MAX IV and the European XFEL.
  • Propose and test components suitable for X-ray multi-projection imaging such as X-ray beam splitters, sample environments, and detection schemes.
  • Perform experiments on novel biomaterials (cellulose fibers) and address fundamental questions to replace plastics.
  • Work in international research collaboration environments.

The main duties of doctoral students are to devote themselves to their research studies which includes participating in research projects and third cycle courses. The work duties can also include teaching and other departmental duties (no more than 20%).

Admission requirements

A person meets the general admission requirements for third-cycle courses and study programmes if he or she:

  • has been awarded a second-cycle qualification, or
  • has satisfied the requirements for courses comprising at least 240 credits of which at least 60 credits were awarded in the second cycle, or
  • has acquired substantially equivalent knowledge in some other way in Sweden or abroad.

A person meets the specific admission requirements for third-cycle studies in Physics if he or she has:

  • passed an independent project (e.g.degree project) of at least 30 credits in a relevant subject

Equivalent knowledge acquired through corresponding programmes will be assessed individually. In order to enable interdisciplinary initiatives and important specialisations in certain areas, students with qualifications in subjects other than Physics may be considered for admission.

Finally, the student must be judged to have the potential to complete the programme.

Additional requirements:

  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English.

Other assessment criteria

  • Experience in imaging techniques in any part of the electromagnetic spectrum
  • Experience in experimental physics and/or X-ray instrumentation is appreciated including optics and detectors
  • Experience in optical fibers is appreciated
  • Experience in control systems

Basis of assessment

Selection to postgraduate studies is based on the expected ability to perform well in the studies. The evaluation of the ability to perform well is based primarily on the results of studies at the basic and advanced levels, in particular:

  1. Knowledge and skills relevant to the thesis project and the subject of the study.
  2. An assessment of ability to work independently and to formulate and tackle research problems.
  3. Written and oral communication skills
  4. Other experience relevant to postgraduate studies, such as professional experience.

Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant, through his or her experience and skills, is deemed to have the abilities necessary for successfully completing the third cycle programme.

Only those admitted to third cycle studies may be appointed to a doctoral studentship. Third cycle studies at LTH consist of full-time studies for 4 years. A doctoral studentship is a fixed-term employment of a maximum of 5 years (including 20% departmental duties). Senior lecturer in diabetes with focus on translational diabetes and/or nutrition research

Position

A permanent position as senior lecturer in diabetes, with a focus on translational diabetes research and/or nutrition research. The position is currently based at the Department of Clinical Sciences, Malmö.

Duties

The Department of Clinical Sciences in Malmö is looking for a senior lecturer who can help advance and promote translational diabetes research, including diabetes complications, and/or nutrition research. We are looking for a candidate with an independent research profile and someone who is internationally recognized in their field.

Duties include research and teaching, as well as participating in management activities at the Faculty of Medicine. The successful applicant will also be expected to perform the departmental duties usually associated with a senior lecturer appointment, that is administrative duties, internal and external commissions of trust and duties related to representing Lund University and the specific research area on the national and international arena.

If the successful candidate lacks five weeks training in teaching and learning in higher education at the time of appointment, their work duties will include completing this training within the first two years of employment.

Other duties may also arise as part of the position.

Qualifications

According to Section 4, Chapter 4 of the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance (SFS 1993:100), a person qualified for appointment as a senior lecturer has demonstrated teaching expertise and been awarded a PhD or has the corresponding research competence or some other professional expertise that is of value in view of the subject matter of the post and the duties that it will involve.

Assessment criteria

The applicant should have demonstrated research and teaching expertise related to the subject in question. When assessing applicants, particular importance will be placed on scientific capability. The applicant should have demonstrated his/her scientific capabilities by maintaining a high national and international standard as a researcher. Further, the ability to secure national and/or international funding is also meritorious. Ongoing national and international research collaborations will also be considered very important.

The applicant should have demonstrated pedagogical expertise both when teaching and when supervising  at the undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate level. Furthermore, the ability to supervise doctoral students and administrative skills will be considered important. Demonstrated leadership skills, collaborative skills and the ability to interact with the surrounding community will also be assessed.

Doctoral student in Building Physics focusing on sustainable buildings and future climate

The Department of Building and Environmental Technology conducts research and teaching in the construction of buildings, bridges, dams, water pipes regarding their function, safety, environmental impact and sustainability.

At the department of Building Physics research on heat, moisture and air transfer through building components and buildings is done. The research results are used to develop building parts, such as foundations, external walls, windows and roofs. The goal is to create energy-efficient, durable and moisture-proof houses with a good indoor environment and low environmental impact.

Work duties

A sustainable development requires reduced use of resources for construction and heating. Thicker thermal insulation, new building parts and changed ventilation rate affect the properties of the buildings. This has sometimes resulted in moisture damage such as discoloration, mold growth, bad odors and rot. Actions to avoid these damages includes doing research that leads to updated building codes, standards and handbooks. The development of calculation tools has increased the possibilities of predicting moisture-related problems.

The doctoral project aims to support the construction industry in designing and erecting energy-efficient buildings, and renovating existing ones to new construction standards, so that the risk of moisture damage is minimized. If moisture damage is avoided, sustainable buildings are created that reduce the need for energy. In addition, resources are saved to produce materials, increases the life of the building and reduces the need for transport. It is critical to also take into account ongoing climate changes that place new demands on our buildings. For energy performance, there are methods for developing and managing dimensioning climates that are used as boundary conditions in calculations. For moisture safety, however, there is a lack of good tools for producing dimensioning climates, this applies both to current and future climates. The project therefore includes both studying moisture-proof solutions, which provide a sustainable construction, and developing a dimensioning climate that is used to calculate the moisture safety of the produced constructions.

The main task for doctoral students is to dedicate themselves to their doctoral education, which includes both participation in research projects and doctoral education courses. The duties also include participation in teaching and other institutional work, however, a maximum of 20% of the working time. Teaching takes place mainly in Swedish.

Admission requirements

A person meets the general admission requirements for third-cycle courses and study programmes if the applicant:

  • has been awarded a second-cycle qualification, or
  • has satisfied the requirements for courses comprising at least 240 credits of which at least 60 credits were awarded in the second cycle, or
  • has acquired substantially equivalent knowledge in some other way in Sweden or abroad.

The specific admission requirements for third cycle studies in Building Physics are met by those who have:

  • at least 90 credits in subjects of relevance to the field including at least 60 second-cycle credits and a second-cycle degree project of at least 30 credits in the field, or
  • a second-cycle degree in a relevant field.

Finally, it is required that the student is judged to have the ability needed to pass the education.

Other requirements:

  • Good knowledge in English, both spoken and written.

Assessment criteria

Selection for third-cycle studies is based on the student’s potential to profit from such studies. The assessment of potential is made primarily on the basis of academic results from the first and second cycle. Special attention is paid to the following:

  1. Knowledge and skills relevant to the thesis project and the subject of study.
  2. An assessment of ability to work independently and to formulate and tackle research problems.
  3. Written and oral communication skills.
  4. Other experience relevant to the third-cycle studies, e.g. professional experience.

Other assessment criteria:

  • Knowledge relevant to the research project described above, for example in statistics, knowledge of materials, risk assessment, etc.
  • Good knowledge in Swedish, both spoken and written, is an advantage for the research project and with regards to teaching.

Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant, through his or her experience and skills, is deemed to have the abilities necessary for successfully completing the third cycle programme.

Research engineer in remote sensing

The employment as research engineer is for work within the project SITES Spectral, financed through an infrastructure grant from the Swedish Research Council to the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences.

SITES is a Swedish infrastructure for long-term ecosystem research (https://www.fieldsites.se) at a number of Swedish field stations. Within this infrastructure, Lund University manages SITES Spectral, which carries out collection and processing of spectral remote sensing data. We are now entering the third phase of the project, with financing 2023-2028. Our task is to coordinate collection and processing of data from drone photography, phenological cameras, spectral measurement instruments, and satellite observations.

Work duties
We are looking for an enthusiastic, thorough and service oriented colleague who will work with remotely sensed data from the SITES field stations. Data is organised and processed from raw measurements to data products published in the SITES data portal. The work includes radiometric and geometric processing of drone imagery, creation of digital elevation models and orthophotos, radiometric processing of data from spectral sensors, calibration of spectral sensors, processing of time series of phenological camera images, downloading and extraction of satellite sensor data (Sentinel-2), quality control, integration of data in GIS, meta data production, documentation, and information work and communication with SITES staff. Programming of workflows is carried out in a Python environment. The employment as research engineer primarily revolves around technical work but is carried out in a scientific environment where interests for research questions is an important aspect.

 

Qualifications are:

  • Master in Geomatics, Surveying, GIS, Physical geography or similar subject, with a large component of remote sensing and GIS.
  • Experience in work with image data from UAV/drones, including radiometric and geometric correction and generation of data products
  • Experience in analysis of data from spectral sensors
  • Experience in analysis of data from phenological cameras
  • Experience in analysis of satellite imagery for vegetation analysis
  • Experience in GIS software, e.g. ArcGIS or QGIS
  • Documented skill in Python programming
  • Fluency in written and spoken English 

Merits are:

  • Familiarity with meta data handling, databases etc.
  • Experiences as drone pilot
  • Experiences of Linux as well as Windows
  • Experiences in production of reports and/or scientific articles
  • Other documented communication skills

Assessment basis
The assessment of applicants will be based on merits according to the above listed criteria. We will also consider personal suitability for the position. Consideration will also be given to diligence, collaborative skills, and independence.

Terms of employment
The position is full time, probational for six months and will after assessment be converted to non time-limited employment.
