Your team
The mechanical design team is part of Engineering I group and responsible for providing support to all MAX IV and its users, the main tasks done by the team are: mechanical design work, feasibility studies, mechanical and thermal simulations, support during design review meetings with the suppliers and procurement of mechanical parts. The team is consisting of designers and engineers who have outstanding experience in designing complicated and challenging parts for the machine and the beamlines.

MAX IV are looking for a mechanical designer who will part of the mechanical design team, contributing to the mission of MAX IV.
 
Your main work tasks will be 
·    Producing mechanical designs based on input from machine and beamline engineers and scientists
·    Apply and follow up the general design standards as well as MAX IV standards, in relation of ultra-high vacuum, stability, precision mechanism and general design of scientific equipment.
·    Produce preliminary designs, conceptual designs, layouts, detailed assembly drawings, installation drawings and manufacturing drawings
·    Participation in the design review meetings for beamlines and machine projects.
·    Performing FEA and mechanical studies for proposed designs, or per need for machine and beamlines.
·    Procurement of the mechanical parts from suppliers, or requests to MAX IV mechanical workshop.
·    Participate in the assembly of the parts you will design and perform quality control. 
·    Participate in the maintenance of the design software.

To be successful in this role you need to have the following qualifications 
•    Education in mechanical engineering or related field. 
•    At least 10 years’ experience in mechanical designs: studies, 3D modelling, parts design, assembly, etc.
•    Working knowledge with 3D CAD SOLIDWORKS, SOLIDWORKS PDM Professional.
•    Experience in fine mechanics and high precision design.
•    Experience with design, design review and interaction with mechanical workshops and suppliers.
•    Technical understanding and ability to propose solutions.
•    Good command in spoken and written English.

Below are seen as merits
·    Experience in mechanical design for particle accelerators.
·    Experience in design for Ultra High Vacuum applications, cryogenic, high temperature, FEA, 
·    Experience with additive manufacturing technology

Postdoctoral position in behavioural science applied to traffic safety

Description of the workplace

This post-doctoral position is open in conjunction to two European Projects at the Transport and Roads Division connected to traffic safety. Transport and Roads has a dynamic and stimulating environment with a large international exposure. You will work in a research group made up by five Senior researchers and four among PhD students and technical staff. However, the group is still expanding with new opportunity for research and international collaborations. We work in the V building on LTH campus, in newly refurbished offices.

Subject description

The position is linked to two EU projects. The first is from Research and In-novation Action and is about implementing the zero vision in Africa. The zero vision is the Swedish Transport Administration's vision that in the long term there should be zero deaths and serious injuries in traffic by road safety permeating all measures in road traffic. The goal is to transfer the successful road safety measures in Europe to Africa and lead to fewer deaths and injuries there as well.

The second is a European Research Council project and focuses on evaluating interactions between self-driving vehicles and ordinary road users from a road safety perspective. The main focus is on an evaluation of road users' behavior as they interact with current or future mobility scenarios using both qualitative and quantitative analysis.

Creating simulation scenarios and using these will be part of the research tasks.

Work duties

You will have particular responsibility for complementing the ongoing research on traffic safety carried out at Lund University with behavioural aspects and in connection with this to further develop your own research field.

The main duties involved in a post-doctoral position is to conduct research. Teaching may also be included, but up to no more than 20% of working hours. The position includes the opportunity for three weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning. The purpose of the position is to develop the independence as a researcher and to create the opportunity of further development.

Detailed description of the work duties, such as:

  • Research within the subject area,
  • teaching in the first, second and third cycles of studies,
  • supervision of degree projects and doctoral students,
  • actively seeking external research funding,
  • collaboration with industry and wider society,
  • administration related to the work duties listed above.

Qualification requirements

Appointment to a post-doctoral position requires that the applicant has a PhD, or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within the subject of the position. The certificate proving the qualification requirement is met, must be received before the employment decision is made. Priority will be given to candidates who have graduated no more than three years ago before the last day for application. Under special circumstances, the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier.

Additional requirements:

  • You have very good oral and written proficiency in English.
  • You have a PhD degree in cognitive sciences, traffic psychology, human factors engineering or another relevant subject for the position.
  • You have experience in experimental and theoretical studies on behavioural adaptation in road traffic.
  • Personal qualities such as independence and the ability to collaborate are required.

Assessment criteria

This is a career development position primarily focused on research. The position is intended as an initial step in a career, and the assessment of the applicants will primarily be based on their research qualifications and potential as researchers. Particular emphasis will be placed on research skills within the subject.

  • It’s considered an additional qualification if you have experience in behavioural studies involving new technologies, such as connected and automated vehicles.

  • It’s considered an additional qualification if you have proven skills in the use of qualitative and quantitative analysis for road users’ behavioural modelling.
  • It’s considered an additional qualification if you have the ability to quickly learn new research tools and methods if the need arises.

Beamline Scientist at NanoMAX

NanoMAX is currently the only hard x-ray nanoprobe beamline at MAX IV. It is primarily designed for imaging and scattering experiments that require a focused coherent beam to achieve ultimate resolution, such as ptychography and coherent diffraction imaging. Secondly, the nanofocused beam also provides prime spatial resolution to scanning diffraction and fluorescence mapping experiments.

Your role
We are now looking for a researcher with a strong background in diffraction-based x-ray techniques to join the NanoMAX team, and together ensure optimal operation of the beamline and its two end-stations ‘Diffraction’ and ‘Imaging’ for users and own experiments. You will take an active role in the further development of the beamline and its instruments, especially the Diffraction station, as well as driving your own projects within science and/or coherent diffraction method development.

Main work tasks

  • You will actively help maintain and develop the beamline, the end-stations and data processing tools, as part of the NanoMAX team, with a primary focus on the Diffraction station
  • You will support users during the planning, setup, and execution of experiments, and be available to participate in the development of eg. user sample environments or analysis code for nanoprobe experiments
  • As a scientist, you are expected to take a leading role within a scientific research area or novel nanoprobe method(s) relevant to the Diffraction station, and promote this program within the (prospective) user community and at conferences

To be successful in this role you need to have the following qualifications

  • PhD in natural sciences in a subject relevant to NanoMAX
  • Demonstrated knowledge of diffraction-based techniques and experience with the use of scanning or coherent diffraction imaging approaches
  • Good Python programming skills, working knowledge of collaborative software development tools, and considerable experience with the implementation of data acquisition or analysis algorithms
  • You have a good track record of published articles in peer reviewed journals highlighting findings from your research and experimental activities
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Good command of English, good communication and team working skills

Qualifications below are seen as merits

  • Experience in instrumentation development, particularly including timing, electrochemistry, nano-positioning and/or scanning
  • Experience in x-ray fluorescence mapping and/or x-ray tomography

Tasks

The professor is expected to strengthen the Department of Business Administration’s research in organisation studies. The Organisation group at the Department of Business Administration is a dynamic and stimulating research environment. The group is particularly known for its work in interpretive and critical management research with significant influence and visibility in the international research community. The group has an exceptionally strong historical background in applying and developing critical perspectives on management, organisation, and work, as well as on broader economic and societal trends. The research is characterised by interests in organisational phenomena such as leadership, identity, branding, change, creativity, craft, trust, night work, numbers, and knowledge work. Research within the group is reflected in education at all levels, but particularly in the Master’s program “Managing People, Knowledge and Change” and the PhD programme. The researchers in the organisation group have an extensive international network of collaboration. The dynamism of the research environment is also reflected in the fact that the group regularly hosts visiting researchers at all levels, from PhD students to professors. The professor is also expected to strengthen interdisciplinary research within the Department.

The professor will act as a research leader, manage research projects, initiate and support applications for external funding, in particular of his/her own research time and of PhD positions, develop seminar activities and attract national and international researchers to the research environment in the organisation group and to the Department of Business Administration.

The professor is expected to contribute to the teaching of the organisation group at all levels, from undergraduate to PhD level. The professor is also expected to contribute to the development of the department's network of research contacts both nationally and internationally, to supervise doctoral students and mentor early career researchers, and to engage with the surrounding community, locally and the wider society.

The division of duties for professors at the Department of Business Administration is 50 % teaching in undergraduate and graduate education and 50 % research and training and supervision of PhD students. This includes related day-to-day administration and taking an active part in the Department’s collegium of professors.

Eligibility and qualifications

Eligibility for appointment as a professor is based on demonstrated academic as well as teaching ability. To be appointed professor, a minimum of five weeks’ higher education teaching training or equivalent knowledge acquired by other means is required.

Requirements for the position are:

  • A doctorate in organisation studies, management, or equivalent research competence relevant to the subject area and the duties of the position.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, network and engage externally as the department places particular emphasis on a positive working environment and the professor is expected to actively participate in the department's activities.
  • Successful experience in attracting external research funding.

Particularly desirable qualifications are:

  • Proven ability to initiate, coordinate, and lead externally funded research projects involving national and international collaborations.
  • Proven ability to establish national and international contacts with researchers and research groups.
  • Proven research experience – in addition to that in organisation studies – in at least one other sub-discipline of business administration. 

Knowledge of Swedish is an advantage. Applicants are expected to be able to teach in Swedish within two years from the starting date.

The professor will serve as a research leader within the organisation group and, together with other professors, within the department. The professor will be expected to manage the existing research of the organisation group and expand it into new areas, program funding applications, development of teaching programs, and mentoring of early career researchers. This requires a pronounced respect for all employees at the Department, drive, and the ability to enthuse and share knowledge.

Assessment criteria

The assessment criteria for appointment as a professor shall be the degree of competence required for eligibility for appointment. Teaching and research skills are given equal weight in the assessment.

Very good national and international standing as a researcher:

  • An internationally competitive publication record that demonstrates both breadth and depth.
  • Publications in highly ranked international journals (AJG 4, 4*, Norwegian list level 2).
  • Proven expertise in planning, initiating, managing, and developing research.
  • Proven ability to obtain research grants on a competitive basis.
  • Proven experience in supervising master’s and doctoral studies.

Description of the workplace
The person appointed will be part of the Division of Packaging Logistics at the Department of Design Sciences. The division’s research group is an international leader in interdisciplinary research into packaging related to logistics, technology and sustainability. The division maintains a stimulating and international environment consisting of doctoral students, postdocs, teachers and professors from many parts of the world. Research, innovation and teaching take place here, in an open and creative climate with collaborations both within academia and with partners in industry.

The division’s senior researchers have a good knowledge of packaging technology, but their primary research focus is on packaging logistics. The position will therefore play an important part in complementing existing expertise in the research group. You will have the opportunity to work with us to further develop and build up expertise in the field. A doctoral student will also be recruited for this work.

In terms of resources, Lund University has advanced infrastructure in many areas that are of relevance to packaging technology. This can be exploited within the position, if necessary. The position is based in Lund, where you will have an office at Design Centre.

Subject
Packaging Logistics focusing on Packaging Technology.

Subject description
This position is focused on packaging technology, i.e. the technical aspects of developing, testing, producing and distributing packaging. This may, for example, include research into applying technology (new packaging materials, machines, sensors, manufacturing processes and analytical methods) to ensure the functionality, sustainability and circularity of packaging systems.

The subject requires scholarly competence in various aspects of packaging and insights into theoretical and methodological issues in the research domain, with emphasis on understanding, explaining and improving the impact of packaging systems on sustainable development. The subject also requires a good knowledge of methods for testing the strength of packaging and the properties and application of different packaging materials.

Work duties
Employment as an Assistant Professor is a career development position, which aims for the holder to develop his or her independence as a researcher and educator. The work duties mainly involve research and teaching. The position shall include the opportunity for five weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning.

Work duties include:

  • Research in the subject area.

The assessment criteria specify the aspects to be taken into account, and the level to be achieved, in order for the assessment criteria to be deemed fulfilled. The following assessment criteria must be fulfilled for appointment to senior lecturer:

  • A good national and international standing as a researcher. The requirement for international experience shall be assessed with consideration to the character and traditions of the subject.
  • Good teaching ability, including a good ability to conduct, develop and lead teaching and other educational activities on different levels and using a variety of teaching methods.
  • An ability to supervise doctoral students to achieve a PhD.
  • An ability to collaborate with wider society and communicate his or her activities.
  • A good general ability to lead and develop activities.

Additional requirements

  • Good ability to co-operate, independence and drive.
  • Progression in scholarly and teaching expertise.
  • Ability to seek external funding actively, independently and successfully.
  • Ability to contribute to the renewal of the enterprise.
