DOCTORAL STUDENT IN MOLECULAR BIOLOGY, BIOCHEMISTRY OR BIOINFORMATICS

Laboratory of Docent Daniela Ungureanu and Professor Jussi Taipale at the Medical Systems Biology group (https://www2.helsinki.fi/en/researchgroups/medical-systems-biology ) at the Applied Tumour Genetic Program at University of Helsinki, Faculty of Medicine invites applications for the position of

DOCTORAL STUDENT

Our research group is part of the Academy of Finland's Center of Excellence in Tumour Genetics Research. The laboratory focuses on the study of transcriptional control of cell growth, using functional genomics and systems biology. Current lines of work include high-throughput determination of binding sites and binding specificities of human transcription factors, using this information to identify regulatory elements that control cell growth during normal development or in cancer. We are also working on pharmaco-genomic studies of drug resistance mechanisms in cancers such as ovarian cancer.

Applicants with strong backgrounds in molecular biology/bioinformatics who are interested in working in an inter-disciplinary environment are particularly encouraged to apply.

Applicants should hold a Master’s degree in a field that is relevant to the research topic and have a high quality research proposal. Relevant disciplines include molecular biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics. Other requirements include proven ability and motivation, demonstrated through previous degree studies or otherwise, to pursue postgraduate studies and a doctoral degree according to the study plan and research proposal. Applicant must be able to work independently and have good communication skills in English.

The appointee should either already have the right to pursue a doctoral degree at the University of Helsinki by the start of the appointment or apply for the right and obtain it within the probationary period of six months of their appointment. If the candidate does not already have the right to pursue a doctoral degree at the University of Helsinki, it must be applied for separately, https://www.helsinki.fi/en/admissions-and-education/apply-doctoral-progr...
