Student Assistant - 19 hours per week: Soil as a sustainable resource (BonaRes initiative), Optimization of agricultural nutrient use efficiency (RhizoWheat Projekt).

The Institute of Biological and Geosciences - Agrosphere (IBG-3) investigates hydrological and biogeochemical processes in terrestrial systems using a combination of experiments, modeling and innovative observation techniques. Our research contributes to the sustainable and resource-efficient use of soil and water and to the quantification of the effects of climate and land use changes on terrestrial ecosystems.

The Project:
We investigate the underlying rhizospere processes governing wheat yield decline in crop rotations. Increasing portions of wheat in crop rotations lead to build up of soil-borne pathogens leading to root sensecence and yield decline. With a combination of root imaging and isotopic techniques we aim to obersve root adaptations and the associated nutrient cycling in wheat crop rotations. At the same time, we aim at predicting wheat yield and growth as a factor of soil inoclumum and environmental conditions by modelling.

Your task:
Assist with root imaging, isotopic measurement, nutrient extraction and analysis in the laboratory.

Your profile:

  • Student of soil science, chemistry, plant science or related disciplines.
  • Interest in environmental science laboratory work
  • Careful and independent work after instruction
