Computer Scientist at The German Cancer Research Center

Position: Computer Scientist

Department: Radiology

Code number: 2021-0119

The German Cancer Research Center is the largest biomedical research institution in Germany. With more than 3,000 employees, we operate an extensive scientific program in the field of cancer research.

A position as computer scientist for the work package AP6 entitled „Intelligent Pattern Recognition / MultiOmics“ of the recently launched CLINIC 5.1 initiative of the Departement of Urology at the University Hospital Heidelberg, in collaboration with DKFZ and multiple partners including industry, is available at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ). CLINIC5.1 is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy for two years. The AP6 focuses on development and validation of a radiological annotation platform for diagnostic prostate MRI and digital pathology and of novel machine learning and artificial intelligence analysis pipelines and tools for fully-automated analysis of prostate MRI, prostate digital pathology and radiogenomic assessment. The CLINIC5.1 main office, which is coordinated by Prof. Markus Hohenfellner, is located at the Department of Urology at the University Hospital Heidelberg, and is in close coordination with Prof. David Bonekamp, the PI for the AP6 initiative at DKFZ.

In order to develop the AP6 software platform and demonstrator, and artificial intelligence tools under consideration of medical device law and utilizing classical machine learning and deep learning into a state-of-the-art infrastructure for the fully-automated and integrated assessment of prostate MRI and digital pathology data, we are looking for a computer scientist.

Job description:

  • Creating easily deployable virtual infrastructures that can be shared with other host institutions
  • Implementing system security measures and performing penetration testing
  • Supporting software developers and users to deploy software and analyze data

  • Interest in and ideally previous experience with medical device law software development
  • Previous experience of infrastructure in a life science or medical informatics context is beneficial

The ideal applicant should have demonstrated the ability to work independently and creatively. The candidate should have excellent communications skills and be able to articulate clearly the technical needs, set clear goals and work within an interdisciplinary setting, communicating with other partners.
