Associate Professor of Bacterial Pathogenesis (Fixed-Term 4 years)

 

The University seeks to appoint an associate professor to the Department of Immunology and Microbiology to commence on 1 January 2022. The post is for 4 years and full time.

Job description

The associate professor will be a part of the Bacterial Infection Biology (BIB) group at Costerton Biofilm Center, which offers a well-established platform in studying biofilm infections with a focus on the establishment of infecting biofilms, cross-link between human and infecting bacteria, diagnostics and treatment. The group conducts both basic and applied research on the molecular level as well as on a broader scale.

The associate professor will be engaged in the planning and organization of different projects involving investigations of clinical samples. The associate professor should have detailed knowledge about the molecular mechanisms that are involved in biofilm formation in a number of medically relevant bacteria and in particular the opportunistic pathogen Pseudomonas Aeruginosa as well as cell signalling processes and chemical control of biofilm formation. In addition, the associate professor should hold license to do animal experience (laboratory animal science (FELASA C) or similar) and have management experience (participated in leadership courses).

The associate professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:

  • Research, including publication/academic dissemination
  • Research-based teaching, including associated examination
  • Research leadership, including guidance and supervision of researchers
  • Obligation to share knowledge with the rest of society, including participation in public debate
  • Academic assessments

Required qualifications
Six overall criteria apply for associate professor appointments at the University of Copenhagen. Furthermore, each applicant must be able to document:

  • Research qualifications at the level that can be achieved by satisfactorily completing a period of employment as an assistant professor/postdoc, but may also be obtained in other ways
  • Teaching qualifications and pedagogical competencies
  • Research-based teaching

In addition to the formal requirements, the candidate should have experience within or strong qualifications within the following areas:

  • General work with prokaryotes and pathogenic strains
  • Microscopy incl. confocal microscopy
  • Working with RNA:
    • Purification of RNA
    • Library preparation for RNA sequencing
    • Data analysis
  • Working with DNA
  • 16s rRNA gene sequencing
  • Handling of different biofilm models
  • Experience with animal models

The associate professor is also required to possess good interpersonal and communicative skills.

Terms of employment
Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations.
The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.
