PhD candidate - international entrepreneurship

 


We are looking for candidates who have an interest in research in the subject area of international entrepreneurship. International entrepreneurship is the discovery, enactment, evaluation, and exploitation of opportunities – across national borders – to create future goods and services. The research field is still young, but has progressively enlarged, extending its scope and position at the intersection of entrepreneurship and international business. In an increasingly borderless business world, entrepreneurs must think globally from the outset in order to develop viable business models. This PhD position offers an opportunity to explore this topic further in a region in Norway that is renowned for its entrepreneurial and innovative capabilities.

Opportunity recognition in international entrepreneurship

Scale-ups and scalable business models

The role of entrepreneurial ecosystems in international entrepreneurship

Entrepreneurial learning in an international context

Sustainability as a driver for international entrepreneurship

Internationalization strategies of SMEs

The department puts substantial emphasis on the solid application of scientific research method. The department has a pluralistic approach to research methods and both quantitative and qualitative research methods, as well as a combination of the two, can be applied in the PhD project. Thus, it is expected that the PhD proposal should contain well-informed methodological considerations. Strong skills in both qualitative and quantitative methodology are favorable.


The department has research groups within international business and marketing, as well as entrepreneurship and innovation. The topic of the PhD project will be situated in the intersection of these research fields and have the benefit of belonging to two well-developed research groups at the department.  


Required selection criteria

The PhD-position's main objective is to qualify for work in research positions. The qualification requirement is that you have completed a master’s degree or second degree (equivalent to 120 credits) with a strong academic background in business, entrepreneurship, innovation, or other equivalent programs  or equivalent education with a grade of B or better in terms of NTNU’s grading scale. If you do not have letter grades from previous studies, you must have an equally good academic foundation. If you are unable to meet these criteria you may be considered only if you can document that you are particularly suitable for education leading to a PhD degree.

The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants and national guidelines for appointment as PhD, post doctor and research assistant.


Preferred selection criteria


Experience in international business, entrepreneurship or innovation is an advantage.

Knowledge of, and experience from regional business is an advantage.

You should master English fluently and preferably also Norwegian or another Scandinavian language.

Personal qualifications which we see contributing positively to the research team are independence, work capacity and enthusiasm. We are also looking for candidates with social skills benefiting the work environment for the PhD candidates and in general.

Salary and conditions

PhD candidates are remunerated in code 1017, and are normally remunerated at gross from NOK 482 200 per annum before tax, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

The period of employment is three years.


Appointment to a PhD position requires that you are admitted to the PhD programme at the Faculty of Economics and Management within three months of employment, and that you participate in an organized PhD programme during the employment period.

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU. After the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.


It is a prerequisite you can be present at and accessible to the institution daily.
