We have a full-time vacancy for a post-doctoral researcher/lecturer at Department of Neuromedicine and Movement Sciences, Norwegian University of Science and Technology. Our vision is to create leading education and research through multidisciplinary work. The position is linked to the audiology group, with Trondheim as the place of work. We aim to facilitate inter-disciplinary dialogues in the wider field of auditory science, and therefore the position will be placed at the interface between applied audiological research and basic auditory research, facilitated by a strong collaboration with the Ear, Nose, and Throat department and hearing clinic of St. Olav University Hospital in Trondheim.
Teaching will be related to the Bachelor Programme in Audiology and to an upcoming master programme in Applied Clinical Research with a particular track in audiology.
The successful candidate is expected to be able to overcome the traditional boundaries between basic and applied research, and we are looking for an individual who shares our vision of multi-disciplinary approaches. The successful applicant will work on topics related to some aspects of the research portfolio of the audiology group, with a particular focus on hydropic conditions of the human ear, and how the peripheral and central auditory system processes infra- and low-frequency sound.
Meniere’s disease is a condition characterised by reoccurring attacks of vertigo, hearing loss, tinnitus, and fulness in the ears. Traditionally, endolymphatic hydrops, an increased fluid volume in the inner ear is considered to be the cause, but it has also been suggested that it is yet another symptom. We are interested in the pathophysiology of the disease, with the ultimate goal of a better understanding of the underlying cause and means to predict imminent attacks.
The second line of research is concerned with how infra- and low-frequency sound affects mammals, including humans, with a particular focus on how cochlear processing contributes to the often-reported annoyance of infra- and low-frequency sound.
Own suitable research ideas are also highly encouraged. The audiology group is currently expanding its research activities, and the successful candidate is expected to have experience in the design and execution of experimental studies, and a good understanding of technical acoustics.
The successful applicant will report to the head of the department.
